Ebullient means ‘cheerful and full of energy’, the use of ‘(grand)daughter’ is a big clue.

i'd put his age as late 70s now, perhaps a few years either way.

don't think they ever got a DNA match off some they recovered from the stamps.

he must have either died or shut it down and stayed out of trouble.

wonder if geneological DNA will ever pinpoint the guy, assuming that IS the guy,
rather than a dupe or accomplice. even so, that would be a big clue.
