Because Seinfeld was never really "about nothing" either, the tag just stuck when they did the episode about making the pilot. Both shows were very much about the bonds of friendship.

Every Seinfeld episode has a plot line and in many cases multiple plot lines involving interconnectedness. You're correct about it being about nothing was more of a catchphrase that caught on and stuck when describing the show, even though it's incorrect.
