Favorite cereals...

What were your favorite cereals as a kid and now as an adult? My favorite cereals when I was a kid were Apple Jacks and Alpha Bits. As an adult, I love Kelloggs Raisin Bran and Vanilla Chex cereal.

reply

When I was a kid porridge. Now I still like muesli porridge. I don't like muesli uncooked though, leave the chaff for the horses.

reply

Americans don't know much about real porridge.

reply

That's a pity. The sheer variety of American processed cereals is phenomenal.

reply

I was watching a " behind-the-scenes" program about the making of The Lord of the Rings. It was cold in NZ and one of the hobbit actors insisted on real wholesome porridge in the mornings and it was a big hit. I remember having it occasionally as a kid traveling in Europe. Really good stuff.

reply

Yes it's nutritious and satisfying.

reply

Cream of wheat though.

reply

Porridge, especially the way the Scots make it, is incredible. Imagine a hot oatmeal breakfast but with several different grains and all the great nuts and berries and such in it.
I never seen anything like it in the US 😥

reply

what is porridge? oats? barley?

reply

In America I think it's called oatmeal. Boiled oats is the basic thing and you can add whatever you like to make it more interesting.

reply

barley meal is good too.

reply

Raisin Bran! Bluuuut!

As a kid, I liked Count Chocula a lot. Now that I’m more mature, I prefer Chocolate Lucky Charms.

reply

Of course, because you're more mature now 😉

reply

BooBerry!

reply

OMG yes! I love Boo Berry and Frankenberry too! Such fun cereals because they reminded me of Halloween!!!

reply

Yep. Most people only remember Count Chocula.

reply

I would always have my mom buy me a box of Frankenberry cereal during the month of October lol.

reply

Don’t forget the very obscure Yummy Mummy

reply

Oh my god, I forgot about that!

reply

There was a 5th type that I totally forgot about: Fruit Brute. It had a werewolf on the box. Not making it up.

reply

It sounds familiar but even more vague than the mummy.

reply

Yes Fruit Brute existed for sure! I remember in the movie Pulp Fiction, the character Lance was eating a bowl of Fruit Brute cereal. :)

reply

Ha! Rewatching that movie recently is what made me remember it!

reply

I never had Yummy Mummy but I have definitely seen that one. Wish I would have tried it at some point...

reply

You’d think that a cereal with a bandage wrapped corpse for a spokesperson would have been more popular.

reply

I liked Boo Berry and Frankenberry much much more than Count Chocula!

But I'd have to say my favorite then that I still like now is Cocoa Krispies! Although it's not as good in recent years as it once was. Lots of hard pieces. 😝

reply

Yeah. Chocolate is good 😁
Just about any kind of Cap'n Crunch is pretty awesome too.

reply

Never heard of that. Must not be available in Canada. My favourite is cinnamon toast crunch.

Have you tried Trix, the one with the rabbit mascot? I've never tried it but am curious what it tastes like.

reply

Sounds weird but in the Trix cereal, you can really taste the fruit juice in every bite. It tastes pretty good. :)

reply

It tastes like Froot Loops, but rounder.

reply

Ahh, Fruit Loops was another great one.

reply

But rounder! 🤣🤣
I didn't know round was a taste! 😂

reply

Cinnamon toast crunch is good. I think it does taste like it. Haven't had Trix since I was a kid (ha), but I know the box didn't last long!

reply

"Silly rabbit, Trix are for kids!"

reply

Cinnamon Toast Crunch. Unfortunately, I am pre-diabetes so I'm avoiding cereal for now.

reply

You should eat Cheerios. They have almost little to no sugar in it.

reply

Good advice. It should actually help.

reply

They're okay . They taste somewhat "bland". I do like "Frosted Cheerios".

reply

I love Apple Cinnamon Cheerios. Very sugary as well....

reply

Honey Nut Cheerios! 🤤

reply

Then you’ll definitely want to avoid Chocolate Frosted Sugar Bombs!

reply

Wow. Is that real?

reply

Only in the Calvin and Hobbes universe

reply

Damn. I love chocolate. Why is cereal even marketed towards kids anyway? They're not healthy at all and contributes to the obesity crisis. It probably contributed towards my sugar cravings when I was young and now I'm pre-diabetes. :(

reply

One of the latest studies on the subject decided that sugar, under certain conditions, as in the way Americans use it, classifies as a drug. Makes sense to me. Explains quite a lot.

reply

I can definitely see it classified as a drug.

reply

Sugar is pretty addictive for sure....

reply

As a kid from the 70s I was raised on sugar. I still fight it.

reply

raisin bran and cheerios are the only ones i eat now.

reply

Product 19 for the w/milk stuff.

And I liked farina.

I don't eat any of the above any longer.

reply

Product 19; I love that cereal but, I can't find it anywhere...

reply

It went extinct in 2016

reply

Bummer!!!

reply

If you are of a certain age you may remember Quisp and Quake. I liked Quake. It was pretty close to Cap'n Crunch which I like to this day and buy a box once or twice a year.

I don't eat a lot of breakfast cereal, but when I do it's usually Rice Krispies or Cheerios and I don't add sugar.

reply

Mmm they haven’t changed.

My all time favorites have always been Chocokripies and chocolate NesQuick.
Maybe I have added now Corn Pops.
