don't read. As in books. They are missing out on such a wonderful word. I caught the reading bug in 4th grade when we read The Hobbit as a class. I was so taken, I got chided for reading ahead but I couldn't put it down! I still LOVE immersing myself in a good book as often as I can.
The Hobbit was a favorite of mine, I must have read it 3 or 4 times and still have it
I'm mostly into non-fiction (crime, history) these last few years but I have Stephen King's last one which I'll get to soon
So many of us are on screens so often it is hard to make time for a good read:/
You can feel sorry for me if you want to because I was a voracious lifelong reader until I got PTSD and then suddenly couldn't read anymore 😢. It's finally starting to improve, thank god. I could read email, or posts, or things that were short, but that was it.
When I was a kid I always checked out the maximum number of books from the library and would come home feeling like the richest person in the world because I could choose any of them to read! I think 14 was the maximum.
There's nothing like that feeling of having started a good book, maybe a couple of chapters in where you *know* you're good and hooked and have almost the entire book ahead of you to savour. Except you'll probably end up reading the whole thing as fast as you can because it's that good 😄
I've had friends who just never got into it and felt sad it was something we'd never be able to share.
Have you tried the Japanese Light Novels? You have tons of them translated to English.
It's a very peculiar and successful type of novel you won't find out of Japan. It's like a short novel, but with a very light and funny mood, often published as a series with recurrent characters. They're very easy to read and incredibly addictive. And fun.
I usually have a 'normal' novel and a light novel in progress at the same time. Right now I'm re-reading Jane Austin novels, while reading 'The devil is a part timer' light novels series. I'm going for one or another depending I want to enjoy something deeper or I feel like disconnecting my brain for a while. https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/19007.Best_Japanese_Light_Novels
I HAVE READ THOUSANDS OF BOOKS IN MY LIFE.ALTHOUGH I HAVE TO ADMIT,I HAVE SLOWED WAY DOWN IN RECENT YEARS..MY DAUGHTER IS THE BIG READER IN OUR HOUSE NOW...SHE AVERAGES A BOOK A DAY.
When I was about 11 I figured out that if I went in the room with all the books, I could go just about anywhere and never leave the house. My folks stopped putting me on restriction because I thought it was vacation.
I read. A few months back I finished rereading Great Expectations. Now I am rereading the Bible. I reread a book about Star Wars original trilogy final and earlier drafts in between.
