I'm tired of people being called "legends" when they die.

Juice Wrld died today and I keep seeing people say he was a legend. The same thing when Chester Bennington died. You may personally be a fan but none of these people are legendary. They weren't even household names. Paul McCartney is a legend. Jimi Hendrix was a legend. Let's stop tossing this word around and save it for those who deserve it.

who is calling Juice Wrld a legend?

reply

People online. And at first I thought they were kids, but these were mostly adults. Seriously, I can't name one song of his.

reply

Never heard of the guy
David Bowie was a legend...
we do need to use these labels properly!

reply

No clue who Juice is/was. Had to look Chester up to remember who he was again. Not exactly candidates for the title of "legend".

reply

I knew who Juice Wrld was but couldnt name a song. I knew Chester Bennington and Linkin Park, but their music was awful and they did nothing to be labeled as legends.

reply

I saw that story. Its sad, he was only 21 and had a seizure. You're right it devalues the term when you use on everyone.

reply

I can only imagine in the future when someone like Ashton Kutcher dies and he is referred to as a great actor or a legend.

reply

By then he might be, stranger things have happened.

reply

Don't say that, you'll jinx us all. Now there's a future where Ashton Kutcher is the new Cary Grant:)

reply

His seizure was a result of overdosing on the drugs he was smuggling, along with guns.

reply

No idea who Juice was nor do I even care enough to goggle them. Linkin Park except for a couple of songs were crap, I know a bit about Chester's background, the guy was in pain but that doesn't someone a legend.

Same as the term hero being thrown about. It denigrates people who have actually performed deeds to save others.

reply

"Same as the term hero being thrown about"

Same as the term genius being thrown out.

reply

The same as every single large scale theatre production getting a standing ovation.

reply

Saw the Swan Lake ballet last year first time I've been to the ballet.

The curtain calls were so staged and pretentious no one was clapping that hard or wanting to see them milk the applause.

reply

That's odd.

I do the Broadway Across America/Canada and every single show people give a standing ovation. Same with dinner theatre or anything really mainstream. It just seems like people think that's what they are supposed to do. If I go to smaller productions, ovations are rarer. They are given when they are actually deserved.

reply

I'd have to be really moved by the performance to that.

I think some people get caught up in the feel good element of giving a standing ovation but if every show is getting one than it becomes meaningless.

reply

Exactly

reply

I hate when someone says "they were a hero of mine" referring to an actor or a singer. A hero is someone who saves people or puts their life on the front lines.

reply

I enjoy reading rock star bios as they are bubble gum for the brain.

That said most of those guys aren't very nice people so I do have an issue with them being considered heroes.

reply

NOOOOOOOO! Not the great Juice Wrld! Why do the good ones have to die so young? Who is Juice Wrld again?

reply

Mediocre rapper but seemed like a nice guy. It's sad that he died from a seizure.

reply

Haha, Exactly.. No one knew who the hell they were, and as soon as they die, they quickly go buy T-shirts.

reply

Or after they die, suddenly people become fans and claim they've always been one.

reply

Speaking of legends, Jim Morrison would have been 76 two days ago, and John Lennon was murdered 39 years ago a day ago.

reply

I'm a legend AND a hero. Trust me.

reply

NOOOOO000!!!!
I AM THE GREATEST LEGEND!!!! screamed Trump

reply

Sheesh....

reply

Like him or not, he is a legend.

Juice Wrld may have triggered own death when he allegedly downed pills

This sounds wrong, but if that's true it's pretty funny. He probably wouldn't have gotten any jail time.
