Newcastle - here I come.
I’m sat in an airport bar again. This time awaiting a 40 minute flight up north to Newcastle for a couple of days. Not the most glamorous place, but it’s work related, so it has to be done.

Jess!
shareI want to get in on the fun!
Does Geordie's Jumpers have a website?
I want to be cool at the pub too!!
You need to know the lingo:
Lesson 1 - Wey ay man? - How are you?
My home toon! Newcastle is a crackin’ city. Enjoy!
shareEnjoy. What are you drinking?
shareLast night Pinot Grigio, today beer. All free, hurrah!
shareLucky.
shareIt’s a conference to thank people for their support. I normally go to 3 or 4 a year.
shareThat sounds interesting. What are they supporting exactly?
shareI run a Financial Consultancy, so we do a lot of investments, pensions, mortgages and insurance. Every now and again a provider will want to say thanks for the support. Sometimes it'll be local or nearby like Southampton. Sometimes I might have to go to places like London, Birmingham, Cardiff, Manchester or Newcastle. Sometimes it can be more glamourous like New York, Dubai, Monte Carlo, Paris, Lisbon, Seville, Rome etc.
shareThat's pretty cool. Do you enjoy the work? Or is the pay-off of getting paid to travel at least worth it?
shareI've been running my company for 20 years now and absolutely love it. When I first started it was tremendously hard work and stupidly long hours, but it was definitely worth it, as I'm able to relax a lot more now.
shareYeah, the first years are always the hardest in business. Must be nice to run your own company. Glad you like it AND you get to travel. Enjoy this time. You deserve it - I mean, you earned it.
shareThanks, but the best bit is, as a company, we can genuinely transform peoples lives for the better. I get no end of pleasure seeing people getting on in life.
shareThat's kinda aspirational. I hope to run my own business someday, one that has the same positive transformative nature. Totally well deserved.
