Love and Christmas...I see a pattern here.

reply

Yep. It seems like about 90% of their movies are Christmas stories...about love.

Yeah, a sickening one. During July it was Christmas movies back to back all day and night. There's another one just now starting titled Moonlight and Mistletoe. Can we please enjoy summer without being bombarded with Christmas movies 24/7 out of season?

The channel was great when it often replayed the Columbo episodes in the mornings. Wonderful way to start the day with one's coffee at sunrise.

And here I thought it was bad when I went into a store recently and saw a Halloween display.

Seriously? I mean, intuitively I knew that is due soon but the first week of August now ?

reply

Yep. This is the earliest I've ever seen it. I don't know how early they think they can keep pushing this.

When I was a boy, I remember opening each, daily little flap of my advent calendar (the real countdown to Christmas) as one of the most exciting elements of the holiday. Now, retailers want us to salivate Christmas all year long.

I remember opening the tiny doors each day leading up to Christmas on those advent calendars. It was fun. I also remember holiday decorations going up and carols coming on at a reasonable time, and that made things exciting and fun too.

I had to look at a list and found three:
Plainsong
Love Comes Softly - just the original movie, haven't seen any of the succeeding movies
Safe Harbor

All their Christmas movies are bad but I love them all. They're great to have on when people come over for the holiday season.

The Littlest Angel.

Not really my genre but there was a TV movie 20 years ago called Saint Maybe with Mary Louise Parker that I liked.

The one where the small town girl moves to the big city and has to move back to the small town in her late 20s due to a family illness and finds out her HS love never left town and owns the family Christmas tree farm. She agonizes over the decision of going back to medical school or staying in town to manage the local bakery and marrying her former HS crush. Have you seen that one?

reply

I only have one...The Nine Lives of Christmas
