Movies With Most Pre-Stars?

"The Outsiders" (1982) had almost every star..

-Patrick Swayze
-Rob Lowe
-Tom Cruise
-Ralph Macchio
-Matt Dillon
-Emilio Estevez
-Leif Garrett (he was made for dancing)
-C. Thomas Howell - the lead actor in the movie, but had the least success compared to those above.

American Graffiti (1973)

Richard Dreyfuss
Ron Howard
Cindy Williams
Mackenzie Phillips
Harrison Ford
Suzanne Somers

reply

Don't know half of those

reply

Your ignorance of film/TV doesn't negate his list.

reply

Clearly you don't understand what a star is.

reply

Yes, s/he does. As all of those were/are stars.

reply

Haha those 3 women were never stars. Name the famous movies they were in after american graffiti.

reply

pre stars not pre movie stars. Cindy williams was a household name from happy days and laverne and shirley. Suzanne somers was a household name from her time on threes company. And last but not least, Mackenzie philips was known for one day at time. So not movie stars, but stars none the less.

reply

So, no movies.

reply

"dont know half of these"

"Clearly you don't understand what a star is."

"Haha those 3 women were never stars."

If not being "movie" stars was your point, I wonder why it took you so long to get there?

As I already said, not movie stars. But they were stars at one point.

reply

To say that Suzanne Somers was not a star is pretty ignorant. Also, the OP states and others have pointed out to you "pre-stars", not pre-movie stars.

I'm not sure how old you are, but all three of these women were pretty famous in the late 70s - 80's.

Gee, and I thought Taps was a big deal because it had unknowns Sean Penn and Tom Cruise.

reply

Rumble Fish (1983) - I don't know how famous any of them were at the time, but it was my first time seeing some of the cast, and I think I only watched it because I knew Matt Dillion from the Outsiders.

Mickey Rourke
Diane Lane
Nicolas Cage
Vincent Spano
Chris Penn
Laurence Fishburne

I can't speak for movies, but if you ever wonder about the same thing on TV, there is a show that I believe had the most "pre-stars"... Miami Vice.

Seems like every episode of that show from the 80s had somebody who went on to be a star in the 90s.

reply

"Wanted: Dead or Alive" had at least 20 who went from TV to Film... Not all were as big as Steve McQueen, but they quite a lot.

reply

I was thinking of Fast Times at Ridgemont High, but I could only come up with 6 names.

reply

6 isn't enough?

reply

The OP's got 8. And probably bigger names as well.

reply

What about St. Elmo's Fire or were they all pretty established by then?

reply

I would say a lot of them were established already.

reply

By 85 I suppose so
I think the OP chose the ultimate pre-stars ensemble film with The Outsiders...good movie too!

reply

Yah, I think The Outsiders is the one. American Graffiti a close second.

reply

Red Dawn (1984)
Swayze
Sheen
C T Howell
Lea Thompson
Jennifer Grey
Powers Boothe
