Why do people hate certain songs?

i could never understand why people hate certain songs so much, I sometimes feel they hate certain songs because other people hate those songs and are only hating it for attention.

There are a lot of reasons to dislike things. We all have our own preferences, so there's that. I also think that when a song gets too much exposure, it can be irritating. Like Despacito a few summers ago. You couldn't go anywhere without hearing that song over and over again. Too much of anything can get people to dislike it.

There are also just really bad songs out there.

Oh I dunno...some songs are so annoying they fairly beg for hatred - like:

Baby - Justin Bieber
Who Let the Dogs Out - Baha Men
Stupid Hoe - Nicki Minaj
The Gummy Bear Song - Gummibear

Stupid Hoe - Nicki Minaj

that song is so silly and stupid and self-evidently awful that i can't help but completely love it.
the only thing that would have made it better is if john waters had directed the video.

Is it getting a Devo level grade from you?

Whip it good!

The Gummy Bear song should be used to torture prisoners at Gitmo :P.

i'm certainly of the opinion that, even if there's a song or performer that i don't like, there's no need for me or anyone else to waste much energy railing against them.

the performer wouldn't have created the song if they didn't think there was some value in it, and it probably means something to them and the people who listen to it & enjoy it. if i don't like it i can happily buzz off and go like the things i enjoy, & the fact that sarah mclachlan (to pick an example of someone who i really find awful) songs continue to exist in the world really doesn't hurt me one bit.

It's not the songs I hate but the style, like rap and hip hop.

reply

Bravo to that!

Too black for you?

Preference and tolerance levels. I agree that people sometimes bandwagon, but I still think it's possible for a lot of people to hate the one song, just like a lot of people can agree that a movie is great/terrible or that an actor/actress is attractive.

every joe shmoe knows a beatles cover, it's annoying if you play guitar, but they are crowd pleasers

im pretty frustrated because i never got out of my acoustic bubble

got this crappy pink guitar from walmart, had an ok yamaha when i lived on westcoast but i pawned it

I don't know about others. But I started hating the song "Born in the USA".

Maybe it's misdirected though. I understand it's a PROTEST song, and I understand why, and the right to protest.

I just can't stand how even until today, people say, "Bruce is SO patriotic!" and then reference that song. Or it's played at events that are supposed to be patriotic.

Well the current song I hate most is that Lady Gaga song from her movie with Bradley Cooper. The radio plays it literally every hour, and has done for months. That's enough to make you hate any song, but this song is especially terrible and hardly qualifies as a song at all. Sounds more like vocal exercises before you go on stage.
