Netflix vs Prime

If you had to choose one, which would it be?

Pros and cons.

Netflix:

Pro -- You can share your account with others, if you want to. Not that I ever have had the need, but I could should I ever have a situation where I wanted to.
Con -- I don't find much on there anymore that I'm interested in seeing. Too much serial killer, psycho, crime stuff for my taste.

Amazon:

Pro -- Better variety on all kinds of subjects.
Con -- If the app crashes (which it does reasonably often), it doesn't save to the "continue watching" list, so I have to run a search for whatever I was watching to find it again.

Welcome back Ms Catbooks

I like both, although I havenโ€™t used Prime for the last couple of years. Technically, the Amazon app definitely seems inferior. I donโ€™t remember it crashing a lot but it was slow to load and the fast-forward and rewind functions were badly designed.

What are you using to run the app?

reply

Thanks, Texas :)

I use it on my iPad. It doesn't load particularly slowly for me usually, but sometimes it does. One thing I like better about it than Netflix's app is you can ff and rewind 10 seconds, while on Netflix's you can only rewind 10 seconds.

Nice to hear from you๐Ÿ˜บ

Prime for the variety
I can find all sorts of older horror and action movies

reply

Nice to see you too, Shogie!

Is there anything about Netflix you like better than Prime?

Prime does have Netflix beat in variety, and I think quality, overall, too. Also, you can find almost anything there, but might have to pay for it. Usually I don't, but occasionally there's something I want to see so much, I don't mind paying extra.

I liked the Netflix Marvel superhero shows but they have been cancelled, sadly...
Netflix also has been stocking up on Bollywood films of late...not my thing at all
Overall I think Prime is eating their lunch

Eh, what happened to the rest of my post? ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

I also said I was sorry Netflix cancelled the superhero shows you enjoyed, and agreed about the plethora of Bollywood films, which aren't my cuppa either.

And that I like that Prime shows you which language a film or show was in, while with Netflix you too enough have to start watching to find out.

I know I'm missing out on foreign films and shows I'd probably like, but I don't enjoy having to read subtitles to know what's going on.

Prime
I can find just about anything there except Netflix shows

reply

Yes, pretty much. Also Showtime and HBO shows, unless they're old. I don't subscribe to either. But I can almost always find something I want to watch there anyway.

reply

Right now I'm still doing both and still utilize both daily..usually at bedtime.
I seem to be on a series binge as films I enjoy seem to be further and further between.

If I had to chose one I probably would chose Prime as it has more going for it overall..
...and Netflix original programming doesn't have much to offer me anymore. There's lots of it but not to my taste and they've regularly cancelled the very shows that I watch (Bloodline, Travelers, Daredevil).
I do like some older films too and Prime seems to have more to offer there.

I occasionally have a little trouble with the Prime app but nothing major.. I agree about the continue watching list but I put things I'm watching on my Watchlist just to be on the safe side.

reply

Same for me, doing both, most often at bedtime.

I loved Bloodline! A few other Netflix shows too. But I'd choose Prime over it, if I had to choose one. Plus, free 2-day shipping. I also put things on my Watchlist, usually. But sometimes I forget and have to search to find it after a crash.

I know what you mean about Netflix content, there are A LOT of action movies and not enough โ€œnormalโ€ movies for my taste. Saying all that, Netflix has better original content. I have both but Iโ€™m pretty disappointed in Prime. May I ask, if anyone here would give their opinion about HULU?

reply

True, Netflix has better original and more content, but then they've been at this longer than Amazon.

I had Hulu several years ago, and dropped it because I dislike having to watch ads. I know they have a no-ads option now, it's that so far there's only been one show they've had I was interested in seeing.

reply

Putlocker. Screw these giant corporations.

reply

It's funny..I have cable, Netflix and Prime although most new films or series I miss I go to one of several streaming sites like Putlocker (but not torrents).
I also sometimes use a few free streaming services like Tubl and Pluto..

But I would drop cable in a minute if anyone around here would let me..It cost the most and I use it the least. And I really don't need it.

reply

Amazon is improving and narrowing the gap.

Criterion has a new service coming in April. Should have a lot of old stuff

Thanks for that. I like Criterion and will look into it.

Honestly, its a toss up for me. If its a cost issue, you can buy 6 months of Student Prime on Ebay, which will come with a .edu email address. Not exactly ethical, but oh well.
