mwall sent me this. is he/it legit?

Hi filmcollector,

I’ve seen that you’re a regular contributor to the boards. I’m currently conducting an academic survey among cinephiles from around the world and I’d like to invite you to participate.

WWW ADDRESS WAS HERE

As a little token of appreciation, my university will be giving away three $35 Amazon gift cards among all respondents.
Thanks for your support!

All the best,

Max

reply

I got the same survey. I completed it and it seems legit.

reply

Oooh, not a good idea. It seems fishy to me.

😎

reply

I completed it also from my work computer. I await my Amazon card.

reply

No!! Don't do it!!!

I want that Amazon card for me.

reply

I got one too, Got to be vigilant so i deleted it. Could be a doxxing attempt.

reply

How do you delete PMs?

reply

I put he/she on ignore and the message is gone.

reply

Whats doxxing?.I did the survey. It seemed legit.Never asked for any personal information. It never occured to that there was any risk.

reply

"Every connection you make on the internet has to carry your internet address on it. This is called an IP address. Doxxers can use an IP logger to trace your online activities. An IP logger can track you and expose your identity when it is combined with searches on membership of certain sites. Your IP address is actually owned by your internet service provider. However, that information alone gives away details about you"

Never click on a link you're not sure of.

reply

Shouldn't my antivirus protect me from attacks like that.

reply

I'm not sure if ant-virus would see it as a threat. It used to happen all the time on IMDb even some of the mods ended up being doxxed by certain users.

reply

Cheers. Was about to do it.

reply

Amen and thanks for the info!

I messaged him back before reading this thread. I said he hadn't made any posts and that ai don't click on any unsolicited links from sources I don't know. He replied that he could see why I reacted that way but that it was safe and I should give it a think.

I still think not. It'd be different if it was a regular needing a survey, not sure why I'm thinking that way as even trusted sources get hacked and PMs sent no matter the social network.

Still. Don't need any viruses. Or I should say any more viruses after the herpes I got from pop-actor.

Hey, what can I say. Italians have charm. 🤣❤️🤣❤️

reply

I agree catsidhe. The questions could have been put forth on here and evaluated much more quickly. I believe, as others do, this was a doxxing attempt.

reply

Me too, and since it was a member with 0 posts, concluded the same as you.

reply

👍

reply

I received the same message too.

Ain't no way that I'm gonna take that survey.

reply

A wise decision.

😎

reply

I took it. It didn't ask for any personal info and it only took a few minutes.

Maybe it was a mistake. I don't know.

reply

I got the same message, but so far I'm ignoring it. I don't trust it.

reply

I'm doing the same.
Also watch out for Dr.RedPill. My thumb hit one of his video links while I was scrolling down in one of his threads and my tablet went bonkers and is currently unusable.

reply

Hmm, interesting. I had a funny feeling about DrRedPill. Thanks for confirming.

reply

You're welcome Cat :)

reply

Everyone has a funny feeling about that bozo, cat.

reply

I thought he was a real doctor.

reply

A doctor of crashing my tablet apparently.

reply

Seriously nobody has hears of Max Wall?

reply

Good catch Dazed. It went right over my head until you mentioned it again.😄

reply

Thanks for the info.

😎

reply

Welcome MovieMan.👍

reply

Got it too, seemed suspicious. Don't have time for surveys right now anyway

reply

The question is, did this guy PM _everybody_? Can we mass PM people here? Where are the Mods when you need 'em? Can _they_ look into the PMs?

So many questions...

reply

Greetings MinaVladimir,

We have no way to see anyone's PMs. This is a good thing, in that they are truly private.

Unless there's some third party software that's been able to hack the site, there is no way for anyone to mass PM members.

This member and their survey may or may not be legitimate, but it's not all right to spam members asking them to participate in their survey.

reply

Which is why I immediately put mwall on Ignore.

reply

And that's what I'm going to do.

reply

Thanks, Mod3.

We need to have a hearing on this issue.
