How Long Has It Been Since You've Been On Imdb?

I deleted my account after 11 years when they removed the message boards, and thanks to this site, I've only went back to Imdb once or twice to check something since the site removed the message boards. I haven't been to the actual site in months and months now, and I don't plan on ever going back again. Happy to say I don't miss it at all, and from now on I will gladly type any movie question into google and find the answer without using Imdb.

I know me not being there doesn't make a dent in anything for that site, but at least I have the comfort of knowing I won't be supporting a site that caved to crybabies, and spit in the face of everyone who wanted to learn more about movies or discuss movies. I have also stopped going to any news site that discontinued commenting, and haven't missed those either.

I will say it forever, thanks to the people who created this site so people have a place to discuss movies online, for better or for worse. Good riddance Imdb.

They have been steadily ruining the rest of their site as well, most recently by getting rid of character pages and removing sort options for reviews.

I go there very rarely now. If Jim hadn't put in those "view imdb page" links for each movie/actor, I would never have gone back.

I refuse to use IMDB.

I have an extension in Firefox (how I get on the internet) that will block any URL I choose from being returned in a Google search.

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/hide-unwanted-results-of-go/?src=api

So if I search a movie, IMDB results get removed before I see it.

The expression actually is that one would cut off their nose to spite their face, but no... There's nothing on IMDB that can't be garnered from any other site and I'm missing nothing by not using that site. It's just that Google returns IMDB pages at the top of the list for just about any search for a movie or actor.

Using the Firefox extension, there's no chance of me accidentally clicking on an IMDB link and helping their traffic, regardless of how insignificant my searches are in the grand scheme of things.

So the satisfaction of blocking IMDB is far greater than anything I might potentially lose by not using them. It's a win for me..

in my neighborhood it's bite, but, why wouldn't you want to use IMDb? it's there, it has a lot of movie info
probably more than any other site, I use it all the time, but I miss the interactions with the other posters,
other sites just don't cut it, MC is the closest to IMDb, but they don't discuss movies and actors that much, most is just a bunch of nonsense,

reply

i go there sometimes to look movies or tv shows up here and there but i rarely go there anymore since they got rid of the message boards.

reply

I just went over there to find out the name of an actress who I just saw in an episode of an old Dutch tv show. I have no idea of any other way to find that out.

reply

I still go on there to find the names of certain actors who I can't remember.

reply

A few days, maybe.I had to check on something.

reply

I still use it regularly. I used it primarily for its other services for years before trying out the movie boards. So that hasn't changed. I still rate movies, look up info and lately started using its watchlist feature when i maxed out my DVD Queue on Netflix.

reply

I wouldn't mind rating movies, but there's basically no reason for me to even log in, so I don't bother.

reply

I rate primarily for myself, I am getting older, memory isn't what it once was and the amount of movies being released is staggering. So for tracking purposes alone I rate, and IMDB has one of the most complete list of films out there and I have already been using the site for so long so even though I was annoyed with the boards closing. I was not annoyed enough to transfer my business elsewhere as far as information and film tracking is concerned.

reply

A couple days I guess. I go there sometimes. But I'm never there for more than a couple minutes to check some actor's list of roles or something. The site feels like a ghost town now. It's sad really. I still miss the old days.
