So if you accuse an actor of sexual misconduct his career is over

Yet Donald Trump gets accused of sexual misconduct several times and he's elected president.Hardly seems fair.

reply

It's not fair. Especially since their careers are being ruined on allegations. While I'm sure most of it is true, some may not be. I know someone in real life who was falsely accused and its a horrible thing. And then it always leaves that bad taste in your mouth because no one can ever say for sure when its just someone's word against another. If people are falsely accusing, they are horrible. I could see someone doing it out of jealousy though.

reply

People who falsely accuse are a pet peeve of mine. And you're right; even if exonerated, there's often a lingering stigma attached to the accused.

reply

Its almost as if once its out, you are crucified in the court of public opinion and can't get back from it. So yeah, horrible if someone accuses when it isn't true. Not exactly big news when someone didn't do it.

reply

It's "trial by social media" and little good is going to come from it. There are very sound reasons for the presumption of innocence doctrine and for statutes of limitation.

reply

Are there statutes of limitation on sexual crimes?

reply

It varies by state. In New York, there isn't one for rape but there are for lesser sexual offenses.

reply

Ah okay, didn't think there was. I'm actually not sure about the laws here in Canada for individual offenses. I'm pretty sure there is none, but it could vary as it does in America.

reply

I'm going to ballpark and say 80-85% of the claims are true. Since so many people are taught to automatically believe the victim, it's setting up a terrible precedent where someone can gain sympathy from a false claim. I've seen celebrities say they were harassed by a director or another actor but they don't name names. I mean, if you really want to stop any further assault from this person, why come out and not give out names? If you can't prove it and want to stay silent, fine, but you can't reveal you were assaulted and then be cryptic about who it was. It's suspicious and you can't expect me to automatically believe you.

Bill Clinton was accused of sexual misconduct multiple times and he served two full terms plus the Constitution was the only thing that stopped him from seeking a third term. Hardly seems fair.

reply

You're being generous. Bill Clinton was a rapist. Hillary knew it, defended him, and that makes her an accessory to rape.

People like gossip, they don't care about whether it's true. Someone on here earlier today was trying to make some little girl's death out to be sex abuse when it was a medical condition. People have no shame.

reply

They must be punishing the whole country for that
