R.I.P. Harry Dean Stanton

Actor Harry Dean Stanton, who was in over 100 movies, has died at the age of 91. 😢

reply

I will be holding a candlelight vigil tonight.

reply

Wow. 91, I had no idea.

My favorite role will always be Johnnie Farragut in Wild at Heart.

reply

he was in the Twin Peaks reboot - working til the end - he was in Alien (1979)

reply

He was in a lot of really good movies.
I haven't watched the new Twin Peaks yet.

He was a great character actor. He did a lot of TV westerns early in his career.
He didn't have the looks, by Hollywood standards, to be a leading man but he had the talent.

I wonder if in the future if people will look at him as a "great" character actor as we do now ?
Kind of like we view those actors of the 40's and 50's.
Like Ward Bond
Jay Flippen
Donald Crisp
Elisha Cook
etc....

I believe so. BTW, don't forget Strother Martin.

reply

Another great example.
Hopefully in the future the character actors of our time won't be forgotten.

Amen.

We, those who have a "few" years and quite a few gray hairs on us are going to see more and more of the greats wither and leave this earthly plane. As an aside, I'm not too far behind them.

reply

So true ksp.

Although I have a feeling you might outlast us all.

This reminded me, whatever happened to the person who came on your porch ?
Did they ever catch him ?

reply

We don't know. I'll have to check the local paper or news. That kept my husband awake for quite awhile; and nothing keeps him awake anymore! Not even the dear sweet thing he's married to.:)😉

reply

LOL !

I fear if you can't keep him awake there's not much that can.
Hell, you keep me up at night just worrying about you.
If that guy keeps your husband up and you don't you might have to step up your game. :)

Another great character actor

Amen. RIP

I just heard -- he was so iconic. Will be very much missed.

I had NO idea he was 91!!!

I mean, even though he's been around forever, I just never thought of him as getting older to that extent. He seemed perpetually "vaguely middle aged" forever.

RIP.

reply

Exactly- I think I first noticed him or became a fan when he was in Repo Man and he was 'vaguely middle aged' then (1984) and that was over 30 years ago, but I still always thought of him as middle aged. Maybe he was just still working so much I never thought of him as declining. He was just always around and usually in cool films.

reply

I have always liked him. So many movies! I remember him in Cool Hand Luke.
I always laugh so hard when I watch him in that one episode where he was part of Charlie's little "support group" on Two and a Half Men.

I think the only things I really loved of his was ALIEN, and the TV series BIG LOVE (where he played a sleazy Mormon cult leader).

I never flipped for PARIS, TEXAS...even though it's considered a classic.
