There was a more recent TV series on that would probably fit the criteria of a show that you are looking for. It featured Charles Manson, and the name of the show was Aquarius.

Because seasons 1 and 4 are the best, 2 and 3 are good too, but seasons 5 to 8 are heavy with filler and the show just loses its direction. There is some okay stuff in there near the end, but not enough to justify sticking it through unless you really end up enjoying and don't want to stop.

The premise? It was a show about this guy who inherited an old car from his mother....
She haunted the car and she talked to him.....
It was the most messed up piece of crap that you would EVER want to watch!
