reply

1.5 billion - walker tribute
788 million - too many characters
626 million - the rock enters the franchise
363 million - first one i went to see in the cinema
236 million - walker takes the lead
207 million - the first one a point break rip off
158 million - the only one with vin cameo

reply

A rip off would be much closer in story line. They are only similar in the most basic form.

reply

The first movie is always the best one in the series. I never understood what the hype was about it and finally, in 2015, I sat down and watched the whole movie. It was not bad actually. Then they also had some others on because I think that channel was having a marathon. I was like "Forget it. The first one is enough for me."

reply

diesel did great acting in the scene when he finally finds out brian is a cop

reply

Yeah, he was not bad.

reply

1.5 billion at least, the Chinese love these movies.

reply

Well, it definitely fit the masculine American image.

reply

There is actually going to be a Fast and Furious marathon today on Spike at 2:30 p.m., according to tvguide.com

I do not have cable, but there you go.

reply

The first one was flat out awful. I never cringed so much in all my life. So much bad acting, bad dialog, and ridiculous plot. I can't even comprehend how there are even sequels.

reply

The box office numbers are insane. I knew they did reasonably well because of all the sequels, but I would have guessed they topped out at 200-300 million. Never would have thought these numbers were possible.

reply

they are extremely popular films

reply

I like cars.

reply

[deleted]

Me,too, especially the ones in the movie, and those are REAL cars (not the hybrid garbage/auto.trans that dominates..shifting gears!)

reply

I usually agree that the first one is the best, but have to note at least one exception -- Lord of the Rings , Return of the King > Fellowship of the Ring.

reply

I never thought any Lord of the Rings were good, even the books were boring.

Definitely an exception.

reply

The 2003 Oscars obviously thought otherwise..Return of the King>p>the first two.:)

reply

I dont get it? Fellowship - 4 oscars, ROTK - 11 oscars, including Best Picture.

reply

My apologies, I accidentally put the wrong title. Corrected above.

reply

and ROTK was the best...Tolkien would have been smiling from the Great Beyond.

reply

I hope he would have enjoyed the films. It's sad that his son, Christopher Tolkien, didnt like them and that we will probably never see The Silmarillion on the screen as a result. I dont think he appreciates how many people were inspired by those films to take the next step and read the books.

reply

Never seen any of 'em, never will. But the kiddies seem to enjoy them. I guess maybe the non-stop fights, explosions and car chases appeals at some level to their primitive 'adrenaline junkie/ video game" brains raised on snorting Ritalin and Adderall. But I'm only guessing.

The money this trash pulls in is simply astounding, same with all that sooperhero crap of guys flying around "fightin' crime" wearing tights and Mexican wrestling masks.

We'll never see the end of it now.
Oh well, there are still plenty of good movies for people like me.

reply

Actually, the Fast and the Furious franchise was suppose to be for all those people, and it seems like we have a huge population of them, who envision themselves as the tough guy. It has chicks, muscle cars, explosions, fights, and mechanics. These are all stereotypes of a masculine image.

I have to say that the first one was pretty good. It was not really the action that appealed to me as much as the whole government vs. the rogue plot. Paul Walker was suppose to play a cop, and most people can relate to Vin Diesel, as one of those Americans, who like to live a freewill/independent lifestyle, who hates government regulation. Really, if one has seen this movie in a political light; it would make sense of why it could be interesting to an audience. Then again, like you said, most would watch it because of the masculine image.

reply

I tried to watch that Mad Max Fast and Furious thing, the kiddies were raving about it - I couldn't get through it.
What in the f...? Is this crap supposed to be?
It's a 2 hour car chase.

Nope, sorry. CLICK off you go.
I'd rather rewatch Gaslight for the 50th time than suffer through that mess.

reply

Mad Max Fury Road and The Fast and the Furious are two different series O_o.

Are you sure you know what you are referring to?

reply

Oops.
Oh well, same shiate.

reply

Late night, come home
Work sucks, I know
She left me roses by the stairs
Surprises let me know she cares

reply

The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift is on today at 5 p.m. EST on SPIKE t.v.

And

Fast and Furious at 9p.m. EST on Syfy

reply

A.K.A. The only one without any of the regular cast, a one-off deal in terms of characters...

reply

Oh it definitely became more and more worse as the movie series progressed. To stick with it up until this point, you would have had to love it for the actual explosions, cars, chicks, rebelliousness against authority, and everything not plot oriented.

reply

No accounting for taste

reply

Well I was asking that on the new movie. I haven't kept up with this series in a long time. Where could they take it I'm fresh directions? I thought they wouldve worn out the concept.

reply

I thought the concept was worn out after the first one

After any of the main characters either die or leave, you know that that franchise is up for being a cash cow. The movies are not meant to be good anymore. It is more of, we'll put down this amount of $ and see if we can double it and throw in some other actors, who are not getting a lot of work now, to work on it.

reply

IMO, the movies were never good. Ever. Including the first one.

reply

The first one at least had a plot. I am guessing the movies thereafter, were just pieced together from footage they probably did not use in the first one or in lower budget areas, where they could use excess $ to invest and make more.

reply

A plot does not equal a good film. I give the first about a 2/10. The others 1/10. Maybe.

reply

That's funny. Plot would be the backbone of any film. I usually like to say I do not watch a film unless there is an actor I actually like. Until this film, I had never seen much of Vin nor Paul Walker and so the only thing that vaguely interested me was the plot.

What do you look for in a film?

reply

Plot is indeed the backbone of a film, but it doesn't automatically make any film good. When I see a film, I look for something well acted, well-written, well-directed, and entertaining at the very least. IMO, the entire F&F franchise has none of that.

reply

For me it's direction and vision. Some movies are not sure of themselves. That's frustrating. Fast and Furious movies are quite clear at what they want to be (putting muscles in muscle cars, literally!) and I respect that.

reply

You do, I dont. That's why Ben & Jerry's has so many flavors

reply

I saw the film today, opening day and enjoyed it and have seen ALL of them in theatre since 2001, ythe first. This is the first without the late Paul Walker, and even Fast and Furious: Tokyo Drift had none of the regulars (except at the end a cameo or two..:)).Michelle ROdriquez is in this, and hot as hell, but not the other original girl, Diesel in the film, Jordana Brewster.(scrathes head trying to figger out..why)
