was it a mistake to drop the new soldiers over skyscrapers

to fall to their death and/or into a swimming pool or was that intended?

reply

Yes. It was subtle, but did you pick up where the army officials were stressing about wrong coordinates just after they jumped? I think they mentioned originally that there were meaning to drop them on the beach.

reply

yeah i heard one mention, but i wasn't sure because no one was saying anything human, like complaining about falling into a pool, being in the wrong coordinates or being scared or unsure. i think this movie was written by robots who don't understand humans.

reply

Yeah true, I thought it was weird how they handled the scene. Like the people who missed the pool were just rolling around as if they sprained an ankle. Where as in reality they would be splattered or deformed.

That and the horror of the survivors having to witness it. Instead they were just like "welcome to Miami", WTF?

reply

Now that I remember I kind of checked out after this scene, and Strahovski's convincing acting brought me back. I doubt I would've been emotionally invested if an actor of her class wasn't in it.

reply

i'm up to the part where he meets her, i'm gonna continue tommorow

reply

They said the connection or whatever location system messed up during the end of the transmission causing them to travel to the wrong location. It would have been pretty foolish to target such a small pool when the transport departure site was the size of a large hall.

reply

i thought at first maybe they don't have the wormhole fully in control and it could open anywhere in the area or something.

reply

I seem to recall sirens and lights and some warning stuff going on just as they were leaving. Pratt's character was aware something wasn't right at the departure end.

It could have been way worse though. They were told they would appear 5-10 feet above the ground. Imagine if they they materialized 5-10 feet above ground at those co ordinates. Loads of people would have been fused into walls and ceilings on the ground floor of that building. Of course, I'm making some assumptions with the way their time travel works and how matter is transported though.

reply

It’s one of those things they made in this movie simply to support the plot. The guys were able to transport soldier the first time with pinpoint accuracy to the middle of the final of the World Cup match, so that the whole world heard what they said.

But because they want their “Saving private Ryan” moment, to show you how deadly war can be, they magically come up with the “oops wrong coordinates” thing and all of a sudden everybody is dead.

I liked it tho, its just dumb plot stuff

They said that there was a problem right away and asked if they should abort the transfer. It was established that the tech was new and rudimentary. Said that if they were not so desperate, they'd still be using lab rats.

Bunch of low-post-count Pratt haters everywhere.

reply

Guess they were just lucky when they transported them to the middle of the World Cup then….

Sigh

They said that there was a problem right away.
They said that there was a problem.
There was a problem.

You pre-hate this movie and I am pretty sure I know why.

reply

I actually liked this movie a lot. But I’m not blind to its stupidity.

reply

Nor do I claim that it is flawless. But you see a part in it where they actually say that they are unlucky and you assume the reverse and think that they must be only "lucky" the rest of the time. This is why I am dancing with you.

reply

The thing is it doesn’t matter if they say it or not. It’s there for shock factor alone. They clearly were accurate with the thing before and it just so happens that when they main character is going to use it for the first time they accidentally mess up the coordinates and have this epic disaster where everybody dies?

I know they said it was happening but it doesn’t make much of a difference. The equivalent of having a character take his shirt off for sex appeal even if the purpose in the movie is because he is going to take a shower, the reality is because they want to show him shirtless.

In this scene, which was 100% not needed in the context of the story, the reason it exist is to shock the audience, to make traveling to the future seem very “Saving private Ryan”

But I’m not complaining actually, I’m quite used to having fun with movies like this even if the whole thing is a mess. Which in this case it is not. But I liked fast and furious 9 for example and that thing is ridiculous.

reply

Fair enough. Taste is what it is.

Your point is good. Though personally, I thought the scene was used to convey how unreliable the tech was and lent to the level of desperation they were in. But you're right, it was sensational. I like sensational most of the time.

I like old Godzilla movies. Hard to get more ridiculous than a guy in a rubber suit knocking over toys.

reply

Yeah. I also like ridiculous movies. It’s not like I was attacking the movie, I actually was quite hyped for it, saw it the moment it came out and was quite happy with it.

Pratt was great in it

reply

More of a highlight of the failures that come with diversity hiring.

reply

They couldnt afford enough extras so they had to find an excuse to make the cast small.

reply

That scene made no sense, and the situation was never revisited. Didn't need to be in the movie.

reply

yeah, I think this plot/scene is unnecessary. Probably the director wants a "quick" way to reduce the number of actors involved
