People Still Don't Realize Midsommar Is About White Supremacy!

In the years since Midsommar, much has been written about the movie’s portrait of grief and community. Ari Aster’s second feature is also rightfully celebrated as one of the best horror movies ever, and it’s impossible to watch it and remain indifferent to the nightmarish wonders Aster conjured on the silver screen. However, while Midsommar is a layered work of art that invites multiple readings, many people still fail to see the most obvious one. That’s because, at its core, Midsommar is a cautionary tale about the ability of white supremacist groups to increase their ranks with promises of support and comfort.

And all this time I thought it was about going Gallagher on old people's heads.

It’s a Jewish man’s take on Europe. A poor and underdeveloped country filled with threats towards the US!

Except we wouldn't know they were supposed to be white supremacist if Aster hadn't mentioned it. A cult who wants to go back to Northern pagan roots doesn't necessarily mean they are supremacist.

Also note that Ulf wanted to be with Connie as her boyfriend. If he was inculcated with supremacy beliefs from childhood, would he even have considered Connie? He did lure Connie and her fiance as a revenge. Which he regretted and sacrificed himself because of it.

If Connie was with Ulf, I think her fate would have been very different. The group is continually looking for new blood because they are such a small community. Someone like Connie would indicate there was absolutely no danger of inbred problems.

But how do you increase ranks when the number of people killed are for new births? Death isn't increasing.

That's not unique to "white supremacist" groups. It's true of all cults, whether they're nazis, Scientologists, Antifa, BLM, or whatever.

If so, I want to see it even less now.
