"Conners" lost 26% of viewers in its second week

In it's second outing as the revamped sitcom "The Conners", the ABC show lost 26% of it's viewers from it's premiere last week. ABC was expecting a drop (it faced off against game 1 of the World Series) but not one as steep as that, according to TV insiders. It also lost the title of #1 show for Tuesday night, with NBC's hit "This Is Us" in the #1 spot (which was down one-tenth from last week, holding it's own against TWS).

By comparison, the second episode of the 'revived' "Roseanne" lost 16% of it's audience from it's mammoth debut last Spring.

I bet it goes down again next week according to the low score. I had a problem when ABC paid Roseanne money to buy her out since she was a creator. They rewarded her behavior.

They rewarded her for her behavior of...telling a joke about someone's looks as a comedian by...paying her for something she owns?

Do you actually read the childish and unintelligible things you post?

reply

Can you explain why you and Trump are supporting Roseanne when she disrespected the National Anthem as she mockingly sang it, then touched her crotch and finally spat? Shame on you!

i'm sure this is used to torture prisoners at Guantanamo.

Hilariously ear retching.

Did they really "buy" her out?

I was under the impression that she "walked away" and gave them the right to continue -- because so many people were put out of work by her ignorant tweet.

I'm sure she signed something, but I haven't read of any money changing hands. 🙄

Roseanne Barr created the Roseanne TV show. She was paid a settlement for the right to air its spin-off, The Conners. She won't get any more money from the Conners show. (I erred since it wasn't ABC that paid her.)

"Before ABC approved the spinoff, Ms. Barr and Werner Entertainment agreed on a financial settlement, according to a person briefed on recent discussions, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to describe negotiations that took place among the star, producers and executives. That person would not reveal the sum of the payment.

In a statement on Thursday, Ms. Barr said, “I regret the circumstances that have caused me to be removed from ‘Roseanne.’ I agreed to the settlement in order that 200 jobs of beloved cast and crew could be saved, and I wish the best for everyone involved.”"

You're welcome.

It was expected to drop after the premiere but this was a really big one. Hope ratings will stabilize enough to get renewed.

It will lose more. This show is a terrible idea and everyone knows it.

I thought the second episode was great. The jokes were very funny. It seemed more like the old show even without Rosanne.

Yeah, I was very surprised, not only was the pace snappier, the writing was very crisp and moved along to further a point, and the acting was borderline spectacular for this type of show. The Darlene and David scenes were really done well, and you could feel that forlorn feeling of two people who do care a lot for each other, and yet know they cannot make it being together, and yet especially with Darlene she doesn't want to give up. I mean, that was really good. Also good was the scenes of Becky owning up to her drinking and at least taking a step to try to stop it.

I would go so far as to call the Conners better than Roseanne based on the strength of the first two episodes, and I am sad to say that part of what makes it better is Roseanne being gone, because she was the center of the show that made the show moves so slowly because she sucked all the air out of the scenes and made them all about her.

I think the Conners is quite a bit better so far than Roseanne.

I think both episodes tried to cram way too much in for a half hour sitcom giving very serious subjects just a few minutes and a joke or two (loss of a mother, alcoholism, opioid overdose, teen sex, etc).

Seems like it, but I'll still keep watching.

The only reason those 26% of viewers tuned in was to see what happened to Roseanne. After the first episode, I expected a huge drop in the ratings.

I wish Roseanne Barr didn't open her big mouth (or Tweet) and say something offensive. Then again, she's not really known for keeping quiet on certain subjects.

I doubt ABC will cancel this show. It'll prove she was right and wind up shooting themselves in the foot over trying to continue the series without their major star.

So far, they've renewed it for an additional episode. ABC will keep it around just out of spite but not for regular full seasons.
