Who made tony soprano? The title says in the poster but the movie did no such thing 🤣

I mean nothing happened.. 😂 Very misleading ..
Also there was several plot holes

I mean did you not see the ending? Dickie was gonna try and lead Tony down a better path, but he was killed before he got a chance, and Tony came to his funeral and did the pinky promise to his spirit essentially saying he'd get revenge for him and kill the person who killed him.

So to answer the question "Who made Tony Soprano?" it was uncle Junior, Junior had Dickie killed which is what sparked Tony to go down the road of the mafia lifestyle. Cause prior to Dickie dying Tony was throwing the speakers out and saying he didn't want any part of their lifestyle, and then when he found out Dickie was murdered he chose to go down it for Dickie, to get revenge for him.

I get it. But that seemed to amount to like 7-10 minutes of the movie. The majority was about the 1967 Newark riots, Dickie’s H.S. football teammate Harold (a character that never even crosses paths with Tony), and Dickie’s paramour who Tony encounters like one time when he’s 11.

The movie is about Dickie and The Riots, not Tony, Tony was never meant to be the central character nor was his story, it was a side thing while telling Dickie's story. The poster and some of the trailers kind of made Tony seem like he was more part of the movie than he was because they was trying to draw people in cause Tony was the most famous character from the show and they wanted peopel to know the movie was a prequel to The Sopranos.

But if you watched any interviews or read up anything about the movie you should know going in this its Dickie's story and Tony's just kind of there as a side character who shows up here and there. The movie was never meant to be a 2 hour long Tony origin story, we see some of his story, and we get enough to see what lead him to going down that lifestyle at the end.

Theres possibly going to be a sequel or a series apparently, David Chase hinted there may be more Soprano's content to come, which Tony will very likely be the main character in, so you'll get plenty more of what makes Tony into who he is in The Sopranos in whichever we get.

Well there’s a problem with what you’re saying because the movie was touted as such, as in being the youth & origins of Tony Soprano. To say that they didn’t want people to go into this thinking that is the understatement of the year. Now as it stands this can viewed as 2 hours of clickbait, which is what it amounts to.

I’ve never seen such bullshit so far this year. So Junior killed Dickie because he “laughed” when he slipped & fell? That’s what they’re telling me? He must be a G’damned psychopath to go ahead & do something like that. What’s more in all this time no one ever knew or caught on? Yeah right. I don’t mind you selling me bullshit but the thing that you’re actually expecting me to buy it is what makes me pissed off about all of this.

I'm with you. This movie sucked.

As i told you it was marketed as being a Tony Soprano's prequel, theres no argument about it, but in every interview or anything online you're told its about Dickie not Tony. They market it about Tony cause he's the famous character from the show, and they figure its gonna get more people interested. Alessandro Nivola who plays Dickie even recently said on Talking Sopranos podcast the trailers and stuff make it look more about Tony but its not that.

But any real fan has watched interviews and read up about it should know what they're getting going into it, so i wasn't shocked it wasn't all about Tony at all, i knew to expect it to be a Dickie story with Tony here and there.

And Junior didn't kill Dickie just for laughing at him, he had disdain for Dickie throughout the movie, Johnny praised Dickie all the time while shitting on Junior, so Dickie laughing at him was just the final straw. And from the tv show it shows you how sensitive Junior is about being made fun of, he takes it very seriously. I mean Junior was gonna have Tony his own nephew killed, he had no issue about doing it. Junior is a bitter ruthless character.

One other point regarding your last paragraph. It seemed that Junior held onto his disdain for Dickie (even after having him whacked) and transferred it to Chris in the series.

reply

There's his father who was largely absent, and his mother and her emotional hands that made Tony desperate to make people love him. There's his uncle who built in him values of loyalty (as far as Tony could see) and care for your fault. And the way his uncle took care of him led to him looking after Christopher. There's his Uncle showing his crazy, impulsive destructive side that kept screwing Tony over. There was a lot there that you apparently missed in your eagerness to bash the movie.

reply

Huh? The main character was Dickie and a big chunk of the movie shows how much he influenced Tony to become how he was and how if he had lived, Tony may have turned out different. The last shot of the entire movie was showing how Tony's future decisions stemmed from Dickie's death and the influence Dickie had on him. Did we watch the same movie lol?

reply

He hardly showed him the trade 🤣.. compared to other mob stories it wasn’t even close

reply

I never said he showed him the trade much, I'm saying he was like a father to him, more than his own father, and Tony obviously looked up to him and was influenced by him. Was literally the entire plot of the movie lol and also alluded to in the damn movie title. I guess we did watch different movies.

thumbs up on all the replies

on top of all those, if there isn't a sequel planned or in the works, then this movie will be considered a failure

after all, we must see how his semester at seton hall went :)

Nothing drives me crazier than plot holes

reply

I don't think you know what that word means.

This millsey72 guy has a weird fixation on what he calls "plot holes". I think hes interested in other holes
