Spoilers So why did the husband...

Join in the end?? His brother Daniel would have died in vain if he succeeded.

reply

Because he realized that he believed in the curse and he knew that his family would die if they did not complete the ritual.

reply

He didn't care about his family that much - they mentioned several times that he had estranged himself from them. In fact, if they survived the night, he was willing to go with his wife far, far away from his family and never see them again.

The other poster got it right.

That was until his brother died and he believed it was by her hand, then he sees her brain his mother - that’s when his family loyalty kicked in and he chose them over some skank he’s been boning for 18 months.

reply

Because he realized that she would not stay with him afterward. He was going to lose her anyway, so he decided to keep what was left of his family instead.

reply

Yes. That and the fact that he walked in on her crouched over his mother, having just bashed her face in with the box.

reply

Yes I loved everything about this movie except for this part, I HATED this part, he all of a sudden changed his mind like a flick of a switch there was no character development in that at all, it made completely no sense at all, not even a twist with it that he planned it the whole time, he went the entire movie against the family Daniel dies then all of a sudden he turns against her?? I hated that part!

yes I did take it as thought she was going to leave him and that is what turned him, but I don't by turning into a murderous person within a second, he even said earlier he proposed because she was going to leave him.. would he have killed her then ?? it seemed to me that it wasn't about the curse at all it was personal that she wouldn't stay with him.

reply

because she killed his mother and he believes she killed his brother as well plus she was leaving him anyway.

reply

Bingo. Can't believe all the stupid peeps on here who didn't get that!

reply

He wanted his mother dead, remember? He told her that if they killed Grace, he would kill his mother. His decisions in the end make no sense.

reply

Because he knew Grace was never going to stay with him after everything. He decided to take the side of his family since he was going to lose her anyways.

That's why he says "You're not going to stay with me after this, are you?" And when she backs away again he knew it was over.

Also, saying you want your mother dead is a lot different than watching your new wife beating her to death, especially after finding his brother dead, which he also likely attributes to her.

reply

I think we all understand why they want us to think the character is going along with it, it just doesn't make any sense considering what we know about him. To do a complete 180 and now suddenly he's the one that's going to murder her? It's stupid.

reply

No, it makes sense that after believing she shot his brother and mashed his mother’s brain in, and then insinuates that she’s going to leave him anyway, that he would weigh up the options and think ‘fuck it, if the curse is real then I need to kill that bitch to save myself and my family, and if it isn’t real then I can’t let the family secret get out, she can’t be trusted to not blab so she has to die’

Family loyalty is a deep human impulse, he’d just managed to bury it, but it re-emerged under the right circumstances just as his mother predicted it would.

reply

Yeah it's a shame it had to be that way where he couldn't just escape with Grace or find an easier way to get her out of there. But yeah, I guess if she was gonna leave after everything, he felt his family was all he had. But, it did make the ending even more satisfying having him blow up with everyone.
