Which fantasy novel would you rather see as a movie than unfinished Tolkien?

Tolkien only wrote about the Second Age in summary form. We don't have details for a great deal of it. All we have are the events on Numenor, the crafting of the rings and the final battle. All the rest is going to be filled in by some pretty unproven writers. The chance that this can be any good seems minimal.

But whose work should they have chosen instead? I'll throw out a few suggestions to get the ball rolling.

Michael Moorcock's Eternal Champion series
Zelazny's Amber series
Robinson's Mars series (to stray into science fiction)

Stephen Donaldson’s ‘Thomas Covenant’ series — this could make for truly gripping, adult fantasy drama
Tad Williams’ ‘Memory, Sorrow and Thorn’ trilogy
Mary Stuart’s ‘Crystal Cave’ Merlin series. It was adapted once before, around the early 90s, but by all accounts not faithfully or particularly well.

Chronicles of Pyrdain or Earthsea. Both have seen tv or animated adaptations, but I’d love to see a well-written movie version

Fritz Leiber's Fafhrd & The Grey Mouser stories, about a pair of master thieves in a huge, magical city.

It'd be nice if they did The Dark Tower the right way instead of that abomination they released a few years ago.

we’re even gonna get scenes inside the tower finally

Weis & Hickman's Death Gate Cycle is tailor made to be a prestige tv series.

Aren’t there already several relatively successful fantasy books made by blacks, for blacks, and starring blacks? Children of Blood and Bone, The Fifth Season, Rage of Dragons, Black Leopard Red Wolf, etc… Or those Black Sands Entertainment comics?

Adapt those, let the Left eat them up, and leave Lord of the Rings alone, along with all the other franchises they ruined.
