Always felt the whole New Zealand thing was kind of a gimmick anyhow. Also, too pretty for the material.

It was filmed in New Zealand because they could do it on the cheap there. It had nothing to do with the catch phrase " New Zealand IS Middle Earth ! "

Middle Earth is supposed to be the UK, right? So it makes sense. On the other hand, I wonder how they will do with all the rain in the UK.

It's too late, it will be hard for the production team to find woodlands and grasslands that can be used as shooting locations like the ones in Australia and NZ. The UK and Europe are experiencing the deadliest heatwaves and the worst drought ever occurred in the last decade.
