Fat Miguel

First it was the girlfriend last season, now Miguel's turn to look like a Zoomed couch potato.

Ralph Macchio is like 80 and he's in shape for this, but the kids, with good metabolism, can't even keep continuity for one season.

I'm team Miguel so this dude needs to get his lazy ass to the gym, crush it, take some roids, and kick some serious bootay

reply

Yeah, he should call up some 80s and 90s pro wrestlers. Those guys are an expert on the subject of taking roids, and hitting the gym. Of course most of them are dead...

I was shocked when he showed up. The difference is especially striking if you go back and watch Season 1 again. S1 Miguel looks like a meth-head by comparison.

It seems to me that one of three things must have happened:

1. He just got lazy and didn't give a fuck.

2. He wanted to put on muscle but got overzealous with the calories and put on too much fat inadvertently.

3. He's preparing for another role, which requires him to be a little chubbier.

In any case, he almost looks like a different person.

reply

Yeah, I just recently watched the series again, and I couldn't believe how huge he became. There really isn't much of an excuse for it. He's an actor. It's a part of his job to stay in shape, and look the part.

reply

He's a teenager, he's growing into his body still.

reply

With a name like "SweetTooth," I imagine you use that "growing into one's body" line a lot.

reply

You lost me

its an homage to ralph macchio in karate kid 3

Once you hit a certain age it's easy to stay at that weight, so comparing with Ralph Macchio isn't fair. It isn't unusual for people's metabolism to suddenly change some time in their 20s. With me it happened at 25 - I couldn't gain weight no matter what I did up to that point, and then it was as if someone had flicked a switch - and I couldn't stop gaining weight. It settled before I got too big, though, when I was around 30, and I have stayed at that size ever since (am now 44).

reply

It "settled" because you continued to consume roughly the same number of calories as you burn.

But if you're a martial arts athlete in training, you'll be making efforts to diet and exercise to be leaner.

Or if you're an actor trying to remain a contender—like Ralph Macchio.

Could also be that he chowed down on eggplant infested with tapeworms back in the 80s, and thus isn't capable of gaining weight

reply

I think over 40 years, he'd know if he had tapeworms and would do something about it.

Exactly.

I was a martial artist in training. But up till I was 25, I had been trying to gain weight, because my body kept burning up everything I put into it. Then suddenly my metabolism changed, and I started gaining quickly. Since my habits at that point had been focused on gaining as much as possible, it was very difficult to adjust. And adjusting always takes time, because obviously the only indication I had that my metabolism had changed was the fact that I started gaining weight.
