How about a show concerning who sold the slaves?

These films and shows always (conveniently) stop short of who put and sold these slaves into sale,

I know it's 'fashionable' to falsely assume that the 'Evil White Man' went to darkest Africa with butterfly nets kidnapping all and sundry....but it never happened this way.

Yet, most (if not all) of these 'stories' always conveniently start in the Deep-South' (but never elaborate about how they got there in the first place and who sold them into slavery)

Blacks enslaved, bought and sold their own long before the 'white man' came onto the scene. In fact, only around 6% of the 12.5m African slave trade were sent to (what would become) America.

America also had it's fair share of black slave owners (replete with their own plantations) but once again, Hollywood never wants to talk about these people or events?

I wonder why?

How about a show concerning the history of white slavery in America? How come we never hear about that?

reply

I agree! I homeschooled my kids and while teaching them was when I actually learned people of all color were slaves. I couldn’t believe I hadn’t learned that in school

to be fair over 200 years 300k white people were shipped to the USA as slaves. while in that same time 10 million black people were shipped. doesnt make it good or right but i get the focus.

True, but come on---you know most of the slave owners in America were white, so don't try and let them off the hook, which is what you're really trying to do. . It was still white people who started slavery in this country that was supposed to be the "land of the free and the home of the brave". And white slave buyers were all too eager to buy slaves from the Africans, who were selling off people they're captured from other tribes. Point being, just because African sold their own enimies to the white man, and just because there were a small amount of black slave owners (never anywhere near the amount of white slave owners, and a very small number compared to them) that alone dosen't justify slavery in America, and once again, it dosen't let white people off the damn hook for starting slavery in America.

The first american slave owners were Indians. They would catch white pioneers and enslave them, raping many of them.

reply

Actually Black slave owners had a very high percentage of the slaves. And it's not true that they only owned their relatives to keep them out of the hands of the whites.

reply

The existence of bad Africans who owned slaves doesn't mean the Americans who bought, owned, and (ick) bred slaves were good. They were vile.

Radical.
