It's so bad

Why are Christian movies always so awful? It doesn't make sense that there are so many Christians in the world and not a decent director or actor among them that can make a movie that isn't like watching a high school play.

reply

Not to mention they always portray athiests as being immoral, devil-worshipping, criminals.

reply

Right?! I couldn’t have said it better, atheists are the ultimate villains always trying to hurt or tempt the Christians who of course always have to get the last laugh because atheists will be punished for not believing.

reply

But...atheists are so often lousy people!

reply

The thing is, many atheist are immoral and corrupt, but NOT in the way Christian films portray them.

They rarely tackle the more subversive means in which atheist (and fake Christians) lure others into immoral or amoral behaviour. Counterfeiting, infidelity, aberrant/promiscuous behaviour, gateway drugs, partying, drinking, etc.

Most Christian films paint atheists as these out-and-out cartoon-like villains you would expect to see from a beat-'em-up arcade game from the 1980s. But in reality, it's a lot more subtle than that and the effects are a lot more detrimental than what they portray in the films.

reply

And this one is the best of the series.

reply

I like the God's Not Dead movies and other stuff like Coureageous.

Better than the stupid torture porn crap like Hostel and Serbian Film.

reply

As if those are the only two choices in the world.

reply

If you really actually like messed up movies like Serbian Film and Hostel then youre a messed up in the head mental person.

I and others do happen to like some of those Christian movies like God's Not Dead and Courageous and War Room.

I wish Hostel was never made in the first place anyway

reply

What is depressing is that torture is real an God is not.

reply

Jes is making fun of you. saying it is not as if you can only watch either Christian films or else your only other choice are films like Hostel.

agreed people do like these horrible poorly made, poorly acted Christian films with disgusting messages.

reply

You like them? Okay, but do you think they are 'good' or do you too see how poorly acted and directed they are?

reply

yes I do like them and No I dont think the Christian movies have bad acting that you claim.

You dont like them? Then go watch your stupid torture porn movies like Serbian Film or Hostel or Human Centipede.

im sure you jerk off to them anyway

reply

I don’t like religious movies so I must like torture porn. WOW

Typical religious judgement.

reply

Fuck you. I like horror movie i just dont like the torture porn horror crap. Whats the point in movies like Serbian Film and Hostel anyway?

reply

Why are you asking me that? I've never seen those movies, I've only ever even heard of Hostel.

reply

All these movies are made by religious fanatics. And Evangelism is basically repackaged Judaism, with their endless obsession over Israel, and their following the Old Testament much more than anything that Christ said. You can't hate, judge, want revenge, all of it, without skipping over Christ's Words.

reply

They don't have the money to make slick movies you'd prefer.

reply

I have seen tremendous films made on a very low budget. Less production value doesn't make the actors and writing suck.

reply

Mad Max is one of the lowest of low budget films and is one of the coolest and most badass films ever made. Low budget really has nothing to do with the quality of the film.

reply

Both correct points, but not really valid. Christians aren't welcome in the filmmaking world, so they just don't have the experience someone working even in low budget films would have.

I'm neutral on this, btw.

There was a time Hollywood made movies for "flyover country." They cared about that audience. Now, all they do is make movies that insult and belittle "flyover country" and I find it sad that Christians don't have a good cinema-producing machine they can go to for movies that don't insult them or their beliefs.

Save the disingenuous, "Which movies insult them?" nonsense, btw.

That's sort of true, but it also goes back to them needing to be more artistically inclined to deliver not just a movie with a message, but a movie that's entertaining above board, too.

I used Mad Max as an example because it was George Miller's first feature film after doing a couple of shorts (which anybody with a will and a creative desire can do, if they really want; plenty of directors are getting their start using 3D engines like Unity and Unreal to produce shorts before heading to larger projects, which is a cost effective way to utilize great tools for learning tricks of the trade with chiaroscuro, perspective, blocking, etc.)

Mad Max had a budget of just $300,000, adjusted for inflation that's $1.1 million. God's Not Dead (from 2014) had a budget of $2 million, and most other Christian films seem to fluctuate between $300,000 to $1 million.

Budget aside, though, most have poor or amateurish cinematography, passe and trite scripts, and either implausible, ridiculous or baffling plot-lines.

The only good Christian film I've seen is States of Grace (from 2005). It was actually relatable, realistic, well-acted and dramatic. That was also made on a $800,000 budget; so good Christian films on low budgets can be done. But it requires a director who knows what he's doing, a high-quality script that actually deals with real-life trials and tribulations in a believable way, and drama people can relate to. Also, actors who don't seem like they stepped off a Lifetime set.

reply

Saying that Christians don’t have the filmmaking experience is entirely different from saying that they don’t have the money needed to make a quality film.

Obviously, so what isn’t valid?
