Henry Cavill may not be Superman

Warner Bros. is currently negotiating with Cavill's rep in renewing his contract. Cavill's team is demanding more money, and the WB studio execs are wondering if he's worth the increase:

If the WB decides not to renew his contract, they'll only be hurting themselves. If HC's team think they can demand A-list money, they're delusional. So it's a catch-22 situation.

reply

Good. Drop Superman and become the new James Bond. That is your true path, Mr. Cavill.

reply

Gotta have the accent.

reply

Please no.

reply

Both sides will take shots at each other. And then come to an agreement. But if push comes to shove, Armie Hammer as the new Clark Kent anybody?

reply

I'm fine if they can't come to an agreement.

Cavill doesn't understand Superman, who shouldn't been dour and depressed. See if another actor can do better.

reply

It wasn't really Cavill's fault. That was Snyder who makes overly glum and dour movies and was somehow chosen to be the Superman guy. Superman did lightened up in Justice League but I think that was due to Joss Whedon's input. Cavill was fine once they allowed him to smile a bit.

reply

He wasn't even necessarily that grim in Man of Steel. He was friendly with Lois Lane and was smiling at the camera before closing credits, perfectly content becoming Superman. For some reason, BVS went two steps backwards and gave Cavill less dialogue than I'm sure Holly Hunter did.

reply

True, I do remember him smiling when he learned to fly and when talking to Lois. I'll have to watch it again to contrast. I remember thinking Man of Steel was at least decent, overly violent action sequences aside.

reply

I do blame the writers much more than Cavill, but I still don't think that Cavill has brought a damn thing to the role except his looks.

reply

Since JL underperformed they may cut salaries like Trek 4 did with Chris Pine and Hemsworth, making them leave.

Think after 2020 it would be time for a new Superman.

reply

Think it would be too late to capitalize on MOS which came out five years ago and in the next few years the hype of seeing Cavill in another film would be ending.

reply

Since his films have had mixed to negative receptions I don't think anyone would wanna capitalize on him.

reply

I think that's more the fault of the stories and the direction, rather than HC's acting in the role.

reply

The went into the team up phase too soon to properly develop the characters.

I don't think bringing him back into a better received film will make a difference, it's a similar problem nowadays with TV shows if your not a ratings smash in the first ten episodes they give you the axe, so there's no time anymore to improve it build an audience, it's means that second chances are at a disadvantage.

reply

This would be a shame. One of the only (and I mean only) good things in Justice League was how they seemed to get Superman right more and more as the film went on. And Cavill did just fine with it.

MoS and BvS were obviously Snyder's fault for how they made Superman. I wouldn't blame Cavill for that.

reply

If he had been JL Superman right from the beginning and not building it up for three films things could've been different.

Think now it would be a bit too late to capitalize on his Superman.

reply

Think in the next few years Cavill's time as Superman would be over.
