So I guess They're Done With The Funny

The tone of season one was all over the place. Joke, serious thing, joke, serious thing, etc.

They reigned it in for season two and now, based on the first two episodes, it looks like season three is just a straight-forward drama without the silly jokes.

Makes sense I suppose.

There were some jokes in this week's episode Shadow Realm. For example, Isaac offering to talk about what sex positions Dr. Finn likes before her ex-husband stops him, and Bortus deadpanning "I am prepared" when she warns him that method to remove the aliens will give him the sniffles.

Also "May the Force be with you.".

Thats sucks , might not bother watching it .

I liked the "all over the place. Joke, serious thing, joke, serious thing, etc."

so...its now star trek

reply

makes star trek look like twaddle... this, to me, is innovative sci FI.

reply

You mean Kurtzman Trek looks like twaddle - 90s Star Trek is still the best.

reply

indeed. no one can bag the star trek orignal, if they grew up with it.. sttng had some moments, yeah.. agree. the episodes with the rescued borg always had me, but tog, the original real trek, cheesy at it may be now... got me into sci fi in a good way.. kirk, a parody of himself now, still makes me smile, lol

reply

Not a single joke in this one.

That's fine but the show really has become something else.

reply

I actually think I like Serious Seth much more than Comedy Seth.

reply

Yes, I think it's better. But the tonal shift was jarring for a bit.

reply

The show needs the jokes. I don't think the writing is strong enough without the humor. Without the satirical edge it's far too basic. Maybe it wouldn't be as noticeable without the longer run times.
