The point of this?

It's remaking a film in the same style as the original, and the original was fine.

The trailer gives away practically the whole movie, too>

What is the point?

I haven't seen the trailer....but I think most trailers are wretched, and just seem to bring you thru whatever story the film's telling in 60 seconds.

A film like this is remade because someone loved the original story, and the general public wouldn't go see the original even if it were rereleased.

Hollywood has always made remakes, from it's earliest days. (For one thing, a studio will already own a certain property, so they don't have to spend money securing the story.)

I went to see this and it was indeed totally pointless.

It did save me from having to see a comic book movie or a dumb comedy, however.

I'll agree with everyone else here. This was supposed to be a thriller correct?

I'm trying to go for an engaging, funny youtube channel so, if you have the time, take a look. Hope you enjoy what you see. Thanks in advance. A review of the movie here- https://youtu.be/57XIMa9I9hQ

I wouldn't say it's a thriller. It's a drama.

My thoughts are the rights to the screen play was in a catalog they already owned the rights to. It may have been in the make or return the rights to some other group stage so they recycled the shooting script for a quicker development.

This movie was completely uninteresting. No character develooment or much of a plot or climax at all.

Totally agree..The atmosphere was beautiful though..I really felt like I was back in time...but story wise WTF?? Don't fuck with a house full of christian girls or they will chop your fucking leg off!! Actually Sofia Coppola wanted to cut the the guys dick off but that would be too direct lol

I watched this last week and it's not a great film but it is a hidden gem. I love the original movie with Clint Eastwood and Geraldine Page. I was just a kid when I watched it on the 3:30 Movie. It really creeped me out. You could feel the menace in Geraldine Page's character. I mean, she basically cut off a man's leg for spite! So scary and some of the images stayed with me.
I'm trying to imagine being a kid today and seeing this. I think it would shock me. I like the juxtaposition of the these beautiful, southern, polite society ladies committing an extremely violent act. Sofia Coppola is always successful at making her films look absolutely sumptuous. The women are so very feminine and talented. The natural lighting looks beautiful. I do wish there was some more meat to the ending. It ends with a whisper. I think that will grow on me on rewatching. I'm a big fan of Sofia Coppola. She's different. To me, her movies are lovely to look at. 7/10
