What is the canon reason Ant-Man isn't in this again?

He and the Pym people didn't know or care about Thanos? Does that work for you?

reply

-Ant-Man was on house arrest, and thus was probably not even in their minds.
-The events of this movie happen too quickly, anyone nearby simply jumped into the fray, and a lot of the battle happened off Earth.
-Ant-Man isn't technically an Avenger anyway, as far as I know.
-Hawkeye wasn't on hand either, and he is an actual SHIELD member.

reply

That doesn't work for me. Especially as he was advertised to be in it until it premiered. Bizarre how that worked out. Especially considering how much Ant-Man and Wasp sucks.

reply

So are you alleging "False Advertising" by Marvel/Disney?

reply

I certainly am. They said he would be in it. He was listed in the credits, they even released pictures of him on set filming and then suddenly he wasn't. The actor and director said he would be in it. That's false advertisement isn't it?

But if HBO call tell their subscribers for three years that they are making Deadwood movies and then saying it's been delayed and then suddenly decide not to make them and not get in trouble for false advertisement, it's clear that that entertainment industry is exempt from the law.

reply

The set pics are because Avengers 3 and 4 were largely or completely filmed together.

Not sure if he is listed in end credits. You mean just imdb?

Things change, director comment would have preceded that change most likely.

reply

That's more likely to be judicious editing rather than false advertising. If he was on the set he was probably in a scene that got cut later on, and it was probably a good idea to do so.

There were already forty or fifty superheroes on board, they didn't need him.

reply

He was never advertised in any of the trailers and I don't think he was in the credits. The set pics you saw were for Avengers 4.

reply

Frankly with how many characters are in this movie, I don't care.

reply

Theres a line of dialogue in the Avengers compound where I think Banner asks where Clint (Hawkeye) is and someone replies that he and Scott (Ant-Man) having to stay out of it for family reasons.

reply

I'm well-aware of that and it's absurd. It's literally the universe in danger and Ant-Man decided it wasn't important enough to get involved at the start. Which kind of makes everything else he does ridiculous.

reply

Not quite. We know from the heroes perspective its world endangering, few outside of them and General Ross and his immediate entourage know that though.

reply

He's on the West Coast and the Earth action took place very quickly and was in New York, Scotland and Wakanda. If he WAS able to join in, that would require a VERY fast flying ant.

Or we can just grouse over Ant-Man not...what? Shrinking Thanos? Enlarging the gauntlet so it was too big to be worn?

Your beef, if one were to even call it that, is with the Avengers' leadership and command structure that failed to inform Scott Lang (Ant Man) as to what was transpiring. Scott along with everyone on Earth, which included Nick Fury, SHIELD, the WSC (if they were still around), Thunderbolt Ross, the UN and the rest of the known world, weren't told what was about to happen. The in-story narrative was all of this happened so quickly. When the attack happened in NY the military didn't even respond.

As to Scott, Hope and Hank? It appears their foray into individual Hero-ing happened just before A:IW.

reply

That particular team had just enough time to band together, go to Wakanda, get Vision repaired, then set up for an entire military battle with Thanos' forces. Why would they spend hours going over to San Fran, explain the situation to a guy most of them don't know, then bring him back? Especially with the US military wanting to bring them in and the FBI having surveillance on Scott's house? They were on the clock and wasting time to get one more member while surely getting the attention of the authorities would only bog them down more.

reply

Right, having now watched Ant-Man & The Wasp, its all quite neatly done and there is no issue.

Be aware, SPOILERS AHEAD, don't read if you haven't seen Ant-Man & The Wasp!!!

Spoilers:

1). Ant-Man & The Wasp takes place at the same time as Avengers: Infinity War
2). Scott Lang has been and is still under house arrest since the events of Captain America: Civil War, which has been two years.
3). He isn't allowed contact with either Hank Pym, Hope Van Dyne nor ANY of the Avengers, and if he steps out of the house or it is proved he has met any of the aforementioned people, he will immediately be jailed for 20 years.
4). Other than the small battle in New York between Stark, Dr.Strange, Banner and Peter Parker versus Cull Obsidian and Ebony Maw, the main battle in Avengers: Infinity War takes place in Wakanda, which is shielded from prying eyes. the world literally has no clue whats happening there.
5). The conclusion of Ant-Man & The Wasp coincides with Thanos snapping his fingers after getting all of the Infinity Stones.

So, not absurd at all as it turns out ;)
