I Never Realised The American Military Was So Diverse In The 1960s

A large portion of the military personnel in this film are non-White.

Vietnam was a black man's war... you must have missed all the demonstrations in the 60's and 70's.

reply

Since you're so obsessed with race, provide statistics that support your statement here.

reply

Thats very accurate to the time actually.

reply

I was more suspicious of the female photojournalist...

reply

Yeah, there were a couple female journalists in Vietnam, but it was a big deal, and not well received. They definitely would have not accepted it that gracefully.

reply

Thats what makes this country so great. All races in every field

reply

Except for women.

reply

What about women who identify as males? They count too

reply

Agreed, they are men with big wangs.

It started from American civil war, from what I understand one of the main reasons Abraham Lincoln freed slaves at the time was so they could be used in the army.

I think ever since then US military always has a very high proportion of black soldiers.

I think that is also one of the few fields white people don't complain about disproportion amount of black people.

reply

They didn’t free to slaves so they could “use” them. They were skeptical about the idea. Black people were lobbying for the right to fight in the military. Lincoln granting the request was a civil rights achievement.

White people don’t complain about a disproportionate number of black people anywhere, and there are zero efforts to fix any disproportionately black fields anyway. I’m not sure what reality you are living in, but diversity only goes the other way. The only time white people complain is when it comes to quotas and the lowering of standards.

I think you and I both know that is not true. Especially in this place when we see those complaints on daily basis. But when you lie so openly and brazenly it is pointless to even try having an honest conversation or debate with someone like you.

reply

You can’t have a conversation, because it doesnt exist. The conversation that happens on this site is usually based around race swapping and forced diversity in movies, which has absolutely nothing to do with black dominated fields.

Oh for fuck's sake, the American Military was officially desegregated in 1948 by President Truman. And in the 1960s it was largely staffed by draftees, and since the most common reason for draft exemption was student deferment for college boys, and the majority of college students were white... the American military of the 1960s was probably *less* white than the general population.

This is why diversifying casting in films is actually important. Because the filmed entertainment of the early and middle 20th centuries featured casts that were about 99.9% white, some idiots have gotten the idea that American itself was all-white, back in the Good Old Days.

reply

That’s accurate for the Viet Nam war.

You want to see a ludicrous example of shoehorning blacks into a war, go watch Overlord. Great movie but they have black paratroopers in Europe during WW2 which never happened.

They even have a black man commanding the mostly white squad. 🙄

reply

What are you trying to say, that black people can't command whites???

reply

Probably not in the 1940's.
