it's a very good movie

the marketing for this movies was very poor and misleading..
I thought it was going to be the usual emasculating tasteless modern woke nonsense, egg on my face, I thought wrong..

its a solid 7/10 stars...

I agree. My rating for this film would have to be 8/10. Yes, it's not perfect, but it's WAY better than that awful 2000 live action movie.

reply

That's what you got from the marketing? I got 'LOTR meets GOTG'.

reply

Thats the exact thought I had and what made me wanna watch it! Turns out this movie is fantastic.

reply

Ikr? I thought the trailer was pretty straightforward but I guess it wasn’t since it did flop unfortunately.

reply

yep, this was surprisingly good. once again crappy marketing kept me from going to see it in the theater. hollywood just ain't ever gonna figure that kind of thing out i guess. wasn't expecting all the Forgotten Realms lore. that was a pretty cool. best job yet of converting the D&D game to screen.

reply

Agreed this was way more fun than i Expected.

reply

OK, I see positive things... I will watch it and see if I find them.

reply

And... i agree. I would call this a 7/10. It is an effective fantasy/action/comedy set in a world that is recognizably D&D.

Now, that is a bit of a problem for some people, because the D&D world is not a terribly coherent fantasy world - certainly no Middle Earth. And, D&D lends itself to contemporary social ideas and language, because it is a world largely brought to life by contemporary people who bring all their day to day life to the table. It works for me.

So you had an agenda in your mind and it turned out reality didn't coincide with it?

feels like you are trolling

Trolling is for the dim-witted.

This was such a charming and entertaining movie. Shame on Paramount for not marketing it better. And it was as I expected: LOTR meets GOTG. That shouldn't have been that hard to sell to audiences.

reply

It's a bit wokey and can understand the complaints It's got on that side of things but I can somewhat forgive it as it was enjoyable romp.

I think 7.3 on IMDB is just about right. For all the wokeness stuff, it was the male characters that were best characters in it. Chris Pine, Justice Smith and Hugh Grant all played it to the hilt. Michell Rodriquez was playing Michelle Rodriquez you see in every film with her. Sophia Lillis and Daisy Head were least interesting in it. The film felt like Guardians of the Galaxy mixed in with Games of Thrones. Although it's nowhere near as fun or as charming as GOTG.

At 2hrs 10minutes long, it's probably 25 minutes way too long. I think funniest part was probably Pine's parole board meeting at the start. The main Villain woman wasn't great. Some the effects were iffy. But overall I enjoyed the chemistry between the group and I never felt bored watching it.
