What part of this show is your biggest turn-off?

To be honest, ABC hasn't produced a decent sitcom in years. A lot of what they broadcast now has bad writing, bad acting, unlikeable characters, political propaganda, and cliches we've seen so many times before, but even worse than in the past.

I've seen the Goldbergs advertised many times on this channel while watching gameshows with my parents. We've never watched it, and we're never gonna watch it, due to preserving our sanity. What little I've seen of the show (usually from accidentally tuning in or not turning the channel fast enough) demonstrates just how happy we were about the above decision.

The biggest turn-off for my family is the-2010s-idiots-doing-a-crappy-job-of-recreating-the-1980s setup. "Stranger Things" did a much better job on that front. It's like a bunch of idiots from Generation Z, who know nothing about the 80s, wrote and set up this show! I mean, they actually have kids on that show in the high school, wearing 2010s hairstyles instead of the feathery or plain 80s 'dos that were so popular back then! Or worse, some of the kids are wearing 2010s clothing styles mixed in with pseudo-80s fashions. Did the people that made this show even watch any 80s material?

The other big turn-off is the mother's annoying personality and horrible, fake-looking, so-not-real-1980s hair. In fact, mom says that women in that time period never had hair that "hard-looking" or even that style. Turns out, it's a really bad rendition of Farah Fawcett's hair from the 70s, so not only is it obvious the actress is wearing a really bad wig, they're trying really hard to make it look like she's out-of-step with the "times" on the show. (The sad part is, from what I read about it, she's a "toned-down" version of the show creator's real mother, which makes you cringe if you really think about it).

Aside from the annoying parents and bland storylines?
Everything else, probably.

The biggest turn-off, every ep is the same thing: "let's re-do an 80's movie, then slap a 70/80s song on at the end"
other issues: The misuse of current slang, no one said "Bro" or "Who Does That?" and others back in the 80's

Biggest turn off is the mom who slobbers all over her "baby boy". Good grief! How does one grow up normal when his mommy is crawling all over him? That woman needs a psychiatrist!!

reply

But you can see he did never grow up, you can tell he's just a spoiled momma's-boy from the vids he re-caps at the end of each ep

You can blame the last part on the idiots who write the telescripts on ABC. Those people would have gotten F's if they tried writing that way in the English classes I took while growing up.

guess you never had the concept of SitCom explained to you

reply

It isn't me who needs that concept explained. It's the dumbasses at GayBC who don't seem to understand.

reply

wasnt responding to you, but GayBC isnt interested in rolling out anything other than another N*ish spinoff

reply

You would be taken a lot more serious if you didn't put things down especially on a show that you've never watched. Sounds like you have an agenda and hate to tell you but I doubt many people are buying it.

It's hard to take anyone seriously if they're defending a tv show that's a steaming pile of crap like that, particularly coming from a station that used to turn out good stuff. It makes you wonder the content of the character of someone who just labels someone as a hater instead of actually trying to understand where they're coming from.

I used to watch ABC much more in the past, because they had much better-written stuff back then. They are responsible for at least 3-4 different tv shows that I still love to this day, not to mention a few very good, memorable tv movies.

And then to watch them go downhill like this after just 10 years, as well as watching a crap show like this getting smeared all over the screen every time my family's watching gameshows is not only insulting, it's disgusting to me. They shouldn't just call it GayBC, they should call it the Retard Channel too.

There are a lot of inconsistencies. I am watching the show for the first time and it's supposed to be the 1984 presidential election but they're talking about American Gladiators. Also they list off these guys in a rival group and one is "diagnosed with depression." That's a far more modern thing. It's not authentic, that's for sure.

Biggest turn off is that it overstayed it's welcome. I actually liked the first two season, it was cute but it really is a show that was not meant to last that long. Adam Goldberg nerdy obsession was cute when he was little but with him as an adult now it is just cringe. The format of the show is always the same, you get an 80's song playing with that "emotional moment" where the character resolve their issues and that is OK for a little while but over 5 years of this ?

reply

It was actually pretty good for the first 13 episodes and for the most part just ok until season 3.

All that awful music and let's all have a hug moment near the end are atrociously awful.

This single camera comedy with no laugh track might very well be the cheesiest show in the history of television.

Originally I loved it! But over time the characters seem to have no growth or development. Adam has grown annoying and unlikeable. I didn’t watch the last season and don’t plan on watching this season
