Did they get the comedy right? What worked?

I noticed a lot of jokes peppered throughout the movie.

Sky walker throwing the saber wasn’t a joke I enjoyed.

Poe stalling with the phone call thing was clever, and kind of funny.

I didn’t enjoy Finns jokes last time so I’m glad he wasn’t the fall guy in this movie.

The joke about c3po having a facial expression was gold.

Cewbacca attempting to eat the roasted porg in front of the porg was great. I liked the porgs.

Jokes about insobordination with Kyle Ren were pretty funny.

There were jokes in this movie🤔 oh yeah...Kylo's face when Luke tricked him,the only joke that i laughed on.

reply

all the jokes fell flat

anything with the caretakers
bb-8 as slot machine
finn phyical comedy
topless kylo
lightsaber to rey's head

reply

The caretakers were funny. Like what are they?

reply

Those were the little creatures running around the island with Luke and Rey. They first show up when Rey fires her blaster through the wall of her hut, angry at needing to repair the masonry because of her sudden discharge.

reply

i found them very irritatiing, way over the top for a star wars movie , was more like a comic book star wars movie

i fucking hate Rian Johnson for this

reply

Most of the comedy was jarring and took me out of the picture.

reply

Almost all of the jokes were dumb and unwelcome.

"Poe stalling with the phone call thing was clever, and kind of funny."

I honestly thought that was the most painful attempt at comedy in the movie. The moment I saw that I knew this movie was not going to be Star Wars.

reply

The humor was pretty poor throughout the film, but what really set the tone was the HUX thing at the beginning, from that point forward I had a bad feeling about what i was about to see.

However to be fair I got a little chuckle out of the moment when Rey was told to reach out with the force and Luke was tickling her hand.

reply

It was funny but at the same time. Sad that Luke was such a stick in the mud.

reply

I like when Luke was teasing Rey with the branch after she claims to feel the force, that joke worked well I felt. But at the beginning when Poe is undermining General Hux and then throwing in a mum joke, I thought that was a little out of place. Overall some of the humour is hit and miss.

Given the historical lack of comedy (besides Cewie jokes and height jokes at Lukes expense), I think they should have been very sparring with the addition of comedy.

reply

That’s a valid point, but I’m a casual Star Wars fan at best so seeing some modernist style jokes thrown didn’t bother me that much.
