Did anyone else think Afterlife was terrible?

I wanted to like it, but I found it such a boring and uninspired take. It failed to justify it's existence and I don't know why Hollywood is so obsessed with trying to revive this franchise. I can't imagine this one will be much better, but maybe not as bad?

Watched it once on dvd, have no desire to again.

Obvious what they were driving for, to resurrect the franchise after the misstep of the female remake (that attempted to do for SNL women what GB84 did for the guys) so a legacy sequel with all the familiar stuff which viewed the original films in legendary status and the actors in that lost legacy characters way (also see Tron Legacy, Force Awakens, BR2049), and given the Amblin/Spielberg treatment with the kids/broken family (CE3K/ET/BTTF/Gremlins/Goonies etc), and in a different settings than usual NYC (Rockwell Americana farm/corn/wheatfields imagery like Field of Dreams, Superman etc) and even going so far to bring back the original villain (Rise of Skywalker style)

So can't really fault them for doing that, it just felt kind of.. bland

Yes I did too! I really wanted to enjoy it but must admit got bored very quickly. The kids tried hard with what they were given but I thought it just didn't work. The script wasn't good enough and don't get me started on the HORRENDOUS possession scenes at the end, they were awful! They did it better back in '84.

They shouldn't be. The answer is just a quick cash grab on an IP they own, obviously. But Ghostbusters is a shit franchise. It's too limited. There's nowhere to go with it. You have ghosts, you have proton packs, you have traps and a containment unit. And the cool car. That's it. That's all there is. There's nowhere to go with this. Ghostbusters II made this obvious years ago. There's nothing you can do that isn't the same thing over and over again, with just slight variations.

Not terrible, but very disappointing. I mainly showed up to see the original Ghostbusters back in action, especially Bill Murray, and all we got was a 5 min cameo at the end. Frozen Empire decided to go the same route unfortunately
