S06E04 - Mazey Day

A play on Nightcrawler (2014)

Loved the twist near the end. Interesting episode, and the tabloids are scum.

reply

what was the twist at the end?

reply

Did you not watch it - what was confusing to you?

reply

I did NOT see that coming

A play on AWIL (1981)

reply

I dont get how its a play on nightcrawler? Can you elaborate?

reply

Excellent twist. Didn't see it coming - never would have guessed it!

reply

I thought this was the weakest episode in the new season. Everyone is talking about the "twist ending" - what was the twist? There was no "omg" moment. It felt like the Britney Spears episode of South Park but without the humor, and there was no dark or unexpected reveal in the typical Black Mirror fashion.

reply

I agree it wasn't great....

But you expected the reveal?

reply

I must have gone braindead or something during the ending, I do not remember a "reveal" in this episode whatsoever. Let me go re-watch the ending real fast.

reply

I mean, the story takes a complete left turn and jumps genres.

I wasn't a fan of it, but if someone had 1000 guesses, they'd never come up with it lol

reply

Ohhh, I just rewatched. So I missed the part where the person she hit was actually a werewolf that bit her. When I originally watched, I thought she just happened to turn out to be a werewolf for no reason, hence why I thought it was kind of stupid and didn't know what the "big reveal" was. Okay, that makes a lot more sense.

reply

Nevertheless, it came out of nowhere and indeed lacked any classic "Black Mirror" feel.

reply

I'm very curious how you could possibly have guessed what was plaguing her? There were absolutely no clues until the moment it started.

You're right in that it wasn't in typical Black Mirror fashion but it was a hell of a surprise to me and to most others.

I did not see that coming. Up until they showed full moon and my mind understood what chain is for. Not to mention her being naked. And I thought: "Wait what? Are they gonna go full supernatural and make her warewulf?". And then she started to turn.

Everything was pointing out that she got high and hit a person and then felt bad about herself and went to fancy rehab.

What shocking was that warewul killed everyone in that cafe. Usually Hollywood kills 2-3 persons. But here everyone died except main character. I wonder what was happening next.

Police would arrive and see paparazzi and cafe full of dead people and actress killing herself. They would detain paparazzi for questioning and confiscate her camera and make it evidence. So she would not have her millions. Or she would have to falsify evidence by taking out hiding flash drive. Or she would just have to run but where? She didnt have a car and her fingerprints would be all over. She would be wanted for murder.

Like imagine police arriving and seeing cafe full of dead bodies. She could claim wild animal broke into and attacked. Then run away. But then there is a famous actress lying naked on the floor and dead. And paparazzi shot her and would have gun powder on her hands.

Her best case scenario would be hiding flash drive which police would be asking for. But she could claim its her friend camera. And then quickly run away to sell pictures. And then tell whole story.

I’m actually surprised someone like Jennifer Lawrence didnt play role of Actress. Considering they had so many famous actors this season.

reply

Shit Episode, similar to one after where she has the demon telling her to kill, what is dystopian or near future about either of them. They are outright fantasy stories that was never what Black Mirror was. No matter how out their the episodes were they were not far fetched and worked because they weren't far off from being true or possible.

The only one i would say is similar in spirit this series is the Josh Hartnett one

Not terrible episodes throughout but not in the same league as series 1 and 2 and would work better if they were there own thing and not Black Mirror

Fucking yanks with their money and complete lack of originality or bravery

reply

Yanks? Episode was written by a Brit and directed by a German. Netflix lets Brooker do whatever he likes.

But I agree it was one of the weakest BM episodes I've ever seen.

reply

It didn't feel like a Black Mirror episode, more like a b-horror movie, but I kind of liked it.
