There is literally no reason for her to be in this movie. What would her role be? Some ex-girlfriend from 20 years ago show up to give some guidance advice to Maverick? They brought Val Kilmer for that.
Would she be his wife and 20 years old children would ran around when maverick would come home?
Maverick being old sad lonely person is actually what really could have happened to him. He was hot head in his youth. Lived his life but didnt settled.
What would her role be?
If McGillis didn't look like Maverick's grandfather, they would have brought her back for a cameo at least.
