Questionable imdb reviews and rating.

reply

Yup. Very questionable. 50% give it a full 10/10. These sorts of people are deluded.

reply

Over 100 IMDb reviews now. Half are fanboys, the rest are mixed but better than the critics. The music was good, the story not so much.

reply

I'd hope the music was good in a Queen film heh. But yeah, seems like it should have been called Bohemian Crapsody judging from the reviews...

reply

they used the original Queen recordings right? i don't want some lame-ass covers

reply

If they didn't, someone needs to be shot.

I'm not sure, but I think Val Kilmer did the singing in The Doors (1991) and did a quite decent job (and I don't even like him as an actor but he was quite effective in that one). So, it can be interesting if done properly.

reply

I'd rather listen to The Doors than Queen, but asking an Actor to reproduce Freddie is too much.
For a moment I almost wished they would find a really good tribute band and lip-sync over it, but by then I'm not sure what the point would be, but anything would be better than an amateur trying to sound like Mercury.
Morrison was very charismatic and his lyrics were pretty twisted, but as a singer he mostly shouted, grunted and crooned some without much vocal range. Freddie could belt to the Heavens.

According to Wikipedia they used a combo of vocals:

"While Malek sang some parts in the film, producers inserted vocal stems from Queen songs as well as filling in parts with Marc Martel, a winner of the Queen Extravaganza Live Tour auditions."

i knew it would suck, haven't seen it yet but seems like hollywood messed this up big time

reply

seen it now, it was enjoyable, get through the heavy gay parts in the middle. Seems like it was a little story with a bunch of their hits. I thought it was gonna be more tragic, but of course it's a hollywood feel good thing. ended at a peak moment instead of trying to be super realistic with aids. I honestly am not even sure what I read this morning but take the movie it for what it is and forget about critics. As for the new star wars, I think the new star wars sucks.

reply

First of all critics are not always right. I remember James Cameron being pissed over a savage review of Titanic look how that movie went. Same guy bashed Jurassic park as well. This movie the critics got wrong I"m not even Queen fan and enjoyed. Just like 'The greatest showman' last year. You really think that movie deserved a 43?

reply

I mostly agree with the critiques I have read on RT. Very enjoyable, sweet and authentic nostalgia feel, great music, but underwhelming movie.

I also thought that the acting was fantastic. They really cast the band well. But in the end, I felt like I got a candy-ass bio of Freddy and some assorted false-starts of interesting things about the band. Could have used its time better and been more cohesive.

I left happy but aware of the flaws. 8/10 (but probably really deserved closer to 5/10)
