When will a white person be allowed to direct a movie about a black guy?

Are Marvel going to keep shortlisting black dircectors to direct black superheroes, asian directors to direct asian superheroes, and women to direct female superheroes forever?

sup?

They should get a real captain America. A guy that really got injected with super soldier serum ou that can really fly with some crazy metal wings, otherwise this is cultural appropriation.

reply

You realize the character Falcon, who is African American, has been in the Captain America comics since the late 1960s, right?

reply

Irrelevant comment to the matters bring discussed.

reply

How? Sam Wilson/Falcon has been Captain America in the comics before. Yet you seem to be upset at him being Cap in the next movie.

reply

How is that related to anything?
In this topic we are discussing who the director is.

reply

You're the one who posted....
"They should get a real captain America. A guy that really got injected with super soldier serum ou that can really fly with some crazy metal wings, otherwise this is cultural appropriation."

reply

And how is that related to "the character Falcon" or whatever?

The point of that post is that if the director of black movies must be a black director (otherwise it's cultural appropriation), then the actor playing Captain America should also be injected with real super soldier serum. I'm not even mentioning if the actor playing Captain America should be white or black, or if the Falcon should be Captain America or not. Please read the context. That is not related to this topic.

reply

Personally I think what you just said is crazy as there is no such thing as Super Soldier Serum in real life.

I'll go head and express my opinion. I don't think who directs this is important as long as it's entertaining.

reply

When Marvel decides to start making good movies again.

reply

ALL MOVIES MUST BE DIRECTED BY WHITE PEOPLE.

reply

All three Blade movies were directed by white dudes.

reply

Thanks for answering a question I didn't ask.

reply

You asked this question: When will a white person be allowed to direct a movie about a black guy? I answered.

Although I should clarify. The first and third were white dudes and the second was a white-passing Mexican dude.

reply

No you answered the question "When was a white person allowed to direct a movie about a black guy?" which no-one had asked.

reply

Glad that someone knows how tenses work in English.

reply

As long as we’re having English lessons, perhaps you should rephrase your question as “When will a a white person be allowed to direct a movie about a black guy again?” Y’know, what with your initial question implying that it has never happened. Of course, we all know you weren’t purposefully being misleading, right?

Keep in mind, I threw the Blade movies out there as an example since we’re already talking about Marvel superhero movies. A more recent, non-Marvel superhero example would be Green Book which came out 4 years ago and was directed by a white dude despite being about a black man. Is that better or are you going to get butt hurt over this example too?

reply

Oh, the last Bad Boys came out in 2020 and was directed by two Belgian guys, although one of them is apparently half Morrocan. But then the movie is about two whole black guys so it evens out.

reply

You must be fun at parties.

"when are we going to eat?"

"We ate this morning. Or did you mean, when are we going to eat AGAIN?"

The question is actually about movies made by Marvel studios, which anyone with half a brain would have understood. Sorry that I didn't phrase the question in terms that mentally challenged people can understand.

reply

Now see, I brought up Blade who is a Marvel character and you moved the goal post by saying older movies don’t count (even though your initial post implied this problem as something happening multiple times in the past) which is why I threw out some newer movies. I figured if you were gonna move the goal posts then I would just follow along and continue to prove you wrong.

Now, if you wanna move the goal posts again and only count MCU movies, there has only been one movie about a black man with one more coming up. That’s only two movies about black dudes and they both have black directors.

Hardly a problem to whine about on the internet.

reply

If you actually had the ability to read the body of the post instead of just the title:

Are Marvel going to keep shortlisting black dircectors to direct black superheroes, asian directors to direct asian superheroes, and women to direct female superheroes forever?

There have as of this point been two movies about a Black Superhero, directed by a black guy, one about an Asian Superhero, directed by an Asian, two about a female Superhero, dircected by women. The Marvels has a black female director, and Captain America: New world order and Blade both have black directors. That is a total 8 movies, with female or non white leads, and for every single one, the director has been slected based on their demographics instead of ability.

And my question was, are Marvel going to keep shortling black, asian and female directors. Marvel have only been making movies since Iron Man (2008).

reply

I know what you said and I know what you really mean. Stop playing games. You are clearly being sarcastic in the body. The title and your main point is all about white men supposedly not being allowed to do something that no one is stopping them from doing.

reply

Your last reply demonstrated that you were only reading the title of this thread, and didn't actually read my post. I called you out on your bullshit, get over it.

reply

So now you are pretending that your title has absolutely nothing to do with this topic. It’s a weird strategy but since I’m proving you wrong on everything, I guess it’s all you got.

I have ignored the body because you asked a facetious question you were no sincere about but I’ll humor you. No one is being shortlisted in Marvel. The director of the upcoming Avengers movies is Asian. Taiki Waititi is a person of color who fid the last two Thor movies. The director of Eternals was an Asian woman who directed a cast of different ethnicities and genders. The Disney+ shows have also had a wide range if directors directing characters of different races. Ryan Coogler just directed Wakanda Forever and while it was initially supposed to be about a black dude, it ended up being about black women. They didn’t just switch directors suddenly because of Shuri.

Nice try though.

reply

You are complaining because my title was not specific enough. A title it not supposed to contain detailed information....seriouyl, wtf?

What does the rest of your post have to do with anything? You are desperately trying to be more and more imbecilic to deflect from your lazy reading skills it seems.

reply

"You are complaining because my title was not specific enough. A title it not supposed to contain detailed information....seriouyl, wtf?"

The title had all the detail needed. You were whining because white directors are supposedly not allowed to do a certain thing in Marvel. I proved that isn't true.

"What does the rest of your post have to do with anything?"

The rest of my post was directly addressing your statements that Marvel "keeps shortlisting black directors to direct black superheroes, asian directors to direct asian superheroes, and women to direct female superheroes". Again, I didn't take this in good faith but I addressed it anyway. There are plenty of Marvel directors who are directing superheroes of different ethnicities/genders, not just their own. Unless, of course, you're going to pretend you didn't just type these words which seems like par for the course for you.

reply

I don't know what your point is. What does the fact that all kinds of directors are allowed to direct movies about white male protagonists have to do with the fact that there are all female, black, or Asian shortlists for the other movies?

Absolutely nothing.

reply

“What does the fact that all kinds of directors are allowed to direct movies about white male protagonists have to do with the fact that there are all female, black, or Asian shortlists for the other movies?”

Now who’s not reading posts? While I did mentioned Thor, I also mentioned Eternals and Avengers movies. Those are not white male protagonist movies. Those are ensemble movies with a diverse cast, meaning that there are at least two Asian directors who are not making movies about Asian superheroes. I also pointed to the fact there is a male director who made a movie about a female superhero. As for black make directors, again, there have only been two movies about black men so it’s not an issue that those movies had directors that reflected their race and gender. And, again, you are only concerned about this because you feel white directors should direct all these films, which is why I’m not taking your “shortlisting” statements seriously.

That said, if you are that scared that white men are not allowed to direct Marvel films, Captain Marvel was about a female superhero and one of the two directors was a white dude. The next Ant-Man and Wasp movie has one main female character (and a black male villain) with two more female supporting characters but the director is still a white dude. James Gun is also still making tue next Guardians movie which features a team where half the cast are non-white and/or female. It’s fine, dude. White men are still getting work.

4 movies about black characters with 4 black directors: Black Panther, Wakanda Forever, Captain America: new World Order, Blade.
Just because 2 of them haven't been released yet, doesn't mean they stop existing.

I don't know why you are typing all of this irrelevant drivel. I never complained about white male directors not getting work. I speficially talked about movies with black, asian and female protagonists.

Protagonists.

Pro.....tag....on...ists.

Not ensemble movies. Not movies that feature black characters.

My concern is the quality of movies that are being made by eliminating 95% of the available candidates.

reply

"4 movies about black characters with 4 black directors: Black Panther, Wakanda Forever, Captain America: new World Order, Blade."

My exact words were movies about BLACK DUDES. Wakanda Forever is about black women. As for Blade, it doesn't currently have a director, last I heard.

"I don't know why you are typing all of this irrelevant drivel. I never complained about white male directors not getting work."

Yes, you did. In the title.

"I speficially talked about movies with black, asian and female protagonists."

And there are only a few MCU movies with black, Asian and female protagonists alone. Shang-Chi is the only Asian superhero to have his own movie in the MCU. Captain Marvel and Black Widow are the only MCU movies with solo female leads (unless you want to count half the Ant-Man & Wasp movies). The list goes on.

You also claimed that Asian directors only do Asian superhero movies and shit and they don't. This is why I brought up Avengers and Eternals. Those are Asian directors who are NOT making movies about Asian superheroes. Done. Its weird how I directly quote you and show that you're wrong and then you turn around and pretend you didn't just say that shit.

"My concern is the quality of movies that are being made by eliminating 95% of the available candidates"

The 95% you're talking about? Are those white men? You're talking about white men, so just say it.

reply

"You also claimed that Asian directors only do Asian superhero movies"

lol. No.

"The 95% you're talking about? Are those white men? You're talking about white men, so just say it."

Who else would I be talking about? What.....the.....fuck....lol

reply

I just needed you to be honest because you keep denying the things you say, including multiple instances of you pretending this topic has nothing to do with white men.

reply

How can it not have anthing to do with white men, when it is about a policy of excluding white men from directing movies? Most talented directors are white men, so by exluding the most talented directors from directing Marvel movies, you are kind of guaranteeing they will be shit.

reply

Once again, YOU were the one denying it had anything to do with white men. I just got you to admit to it.

As for the rest,…. we go right back to the fact that there is no policy stopping white men from directing any movies, which I pointed out a long tine ago. Thanks for playing.

In case you’re wondering, here are the steps to debating the alienzen way:

STEP ONE: Deny saying the thing you just said.

STEP TWO: Didn’t work? Move the goal posts around.

STEP THREE: Didn’t work? Ask your opponent to directly address a passive aggressive statement you made.

STEP FOUR: Oh, shit! He addressed it! Just deny some more.

STEP FIVE: Throw a “lol no” in there. What the hell.

STEP SIX: Own up to your shit after denying it several tomes but make it look like you never denied it.

reply

The answer is that it has already happened. I can ask “When will the Spanish Civil War be over?” And the answer to that would be “It ended in 1939” regardless of me using a future tense. It’s not my fault alienzen was trying to be clever and failed.

reply

You are intentionally ignoring the the OP and only focusing on the thread title as a dishonest way of being clever and it failed.

reply

I addressed the rest. Everything about what he said was stupid. I'm glad it took you two days for anything resembling a retort.

reply

I dont know, its not just Marvel but all Hollywood. At some point lets hope they will start to listen a little less the woke crowd. We will see. Maybe at some point they will say "we did our contribution to diversity, now we are allowed to hire a white guy again without getting accused of racism".

reply

THE LAST 120 YEARS...WE'RE DOING SOMETHING DIFFERENT NOW...SIMMER DOWN. NOEMOJI

reply

We are doing what different? Hiring only directors that have the same sking pigmentation and gender as the protagonist of the movie they are directing? Do we have to hire a dog to direct the next Lassie movie?

reply

YOU JUST EQUATED PEOPLE WITH DARK SKIN TO DOGS...NOT A GOOD LOOK,BOY. NOEMOJI

reply

Anthony Mackie equating people with dark skin to HORSES

https://www.vulture.com/2015/10/mackie-disses-black-directors-for-horses.html

What a racist piece of shit he is. A vote he be recast.

reply

YEAH...BAD LOOK FOR MACKIE. NOEMOJI

reply

Glad you agree he should be recast. And Marvel studios now have a policy of colorblind casting, which means he can be replaced by a white actor.

reply

Probably not, since movies being directed by white men forever was the norm until it wasn't, but would it matter if they were? People often complain about realism, so this would help with that, no?

reply

What?

reply

Would it matter if, from now on, Marvel only shortlisted black directors to direct black superheroes, Asian directors to direct Asian superheroes, and women to direct female superheroes?

reply

What?

reply

Dost thou not comprehend? Or are you being stupid on purpose?

reply

Yes, I am being stupid on purpose. What is your excuse?

reply

I posed a perfectly legitimate question, nothing stupid about it. But if you didn't understand that and still don't, you're not being stupid on purpose.
