My updated Nolan rankings

01) The Dark Knight Rises
02) Interstellar
03) The Dark Knight
04) Memento
05) The Prestige
06) Inception
07) Batman Begins
08) Tenet
09) Insomnia
10) Dunkirk

I will definitely see Tenet again and my opinion my change after that but all of these movies are good, just some are amazing while others are just good. I think my main issues with his last two movies were the underdeveloped characters and that's really unfortunate because strong characters are his big strength.

reply

I think Nolan has his own board / page on this site. Why not post a list over there? It's not specifically related to Dark Knight Rises.

reply

It’s one of his films and my personal favorite which is why I put it here, sorry it’s bothering you so much

reply

I'm placing Insomnia as #1. The scenery and tone is just perfect. The acting too of course!

reply

1. The Prestige
2. TDKR
3. Batman Begins
4. TDK (it would've been the best in the trilogy without Gyllenhall's dull face)
5. Interstellar
6. Memento
7. Inception
8. Insomnia

Haven't watched the rest.

reply

Both Dunkirk and Tenet have weak characters which is odd considering that’s a huge strength of his other films. They were still decent but not up to the level of what came before them.

reply

I'm going to watch both eventually.

Dunkirk has been recommended to me by many, but I'm not into WW2 movies.

Tenet...I'm going to watch it when quality torrents are available.
But looking at who's starring in it, JD Washington, I really hope it isn't forced "inclusiveness" on Nolan.

reply

Dear lord, don't waste your time with Dunkirk. I'm a huge Nolan fan and even spent $30 to see Dunkirk on the recommended Imax 70mm screen. It's a 1/10 imo one of the worst movie experiences of my life.

1. There's zero character development( I don't even know if has what you would call a lead)
2. Hardly any dialogue worth rating
3. The dumbest plot ever(Get on the boat, no get off the boat, no get on the boat)
4. 3 hours and you never see any real combat

It's basically a ww2 battle doc if it were done as an arthouse movie. I'm not alone, the person I went with said they were ready to leave after 30 minutes. Quite possibly the most overrated movie of all-time.

Memento: A
Insomnia: C
Begins: B-
The Prestige: A-
TDK: B+
Inception: A
TDKR: D- (laughably bad)
Interstellar: D+
Dunkirk: C-
Tenet: C+

reply

Of the ones I've seen:

Memento: A-
Batman Begins: A
The Dark Knight: A
The Dark Knight Rises: C+, maybe B-
The Prestige: B+
Inception: A- (maybe B literally just for that last gimmicky shot...)
Following: A (borders A+ but for a couple third-act plot twists; this is an underrated gem)
Interstellar: C

I wanted to watch Insomnia, but you've got it ranked pretty low. I dig Pacino and Williams. If I watch for their performances, will I like it?

reply

Performances are good. I'm not a Pacino fan. My bias probably reducing it below average. Give it a shot.

I guess I need to see Following.

reply

I really liked Following, yeah. It probably won't hit A+ for you, but it's a great thriller with some cool style and a really interesting lead character.

reply

I'm probably on my own in this but the one film that I disliked from that list was "Memento".

reply

That’s cool, I’m pretty much on my own In not liking dunkirk

reply

You're always on your own.

I’ll let you know the day I care what you think

true dat. guy lives on here

reply

Dude is legitimately obsessed. I thought it was funny at first, arguing with him. There is no point though. Ive had discussions on this site where people have changed my mind on many topics. I've realised what I thought was wrong. Speaking with old mate is like talking to a brick wall.

reply

he was on IMDB back in the day, this guy names hungry hippo would destroy him. hes been on the same movie on two different boards for literally 5 years......

did you see he tried to argue with someone LOTR wasn't a trilogy of films because he was mad it beat TDK trology

even my top 5 films I wouldn't say any are perfect, hell not even an 8.5/10. no film is perfect and even my favourites have major flaws. but this guy cant even do that

reply

That trilogy argument is pointless. 3 movies is a trilogy, simple as that.

reply

I down care if the original source was based of a haiku written on the back of a napkin. LOTR is a trilogy

reply

Why do you favor "The Dark Knight Rises" over "The Dark Knight"?

reply

First and foremost, BOTH films rank among my all time favorites, I just felt the stakes were higher in TDKR, I thought it focused more on Bruce and I felt his character was the strongest in TDKR. I thought the emotional impact was stronger as well and I absolutely loved the ending and how Bruce completed his character arc started in the first film and it gave every character meaningful closure.

reply

if you think TDKR is better, you might be retarded

reply

I assume that you have also read all three volumes of "Knightfall"..."Broken Bat", "KnightQuest", and "KnightsEnd" which TDKR was partially based on. I think "Knightfall" was one of the best Batman story arcs.

reply

Actually I was never into comics so I have not read a single comic. If you say it's good I may have to check it out.
