A little help here....or did I miss it.....

I'm kind of confused - I don't know if I missed it or not, but was it even brought up to ask any of the current or past Avengers to step in and lend a hand?

Those are the villains!

Hmmm, perhaps it's because so far this is more espionage stuff rather than an outright display of power or a physical battle that's occurring?

The Avengers would all be too famous and recognisable for what needs to be uncovered?

After one episode I still haven't quite worked out where this all fits in the timeline so perhaps we'll find out the answer to your question as we go further along?

reply

Sounds plausible, but don't you think that this is the sort of question that should have been answered very early and one that logically would have been asked right away?

It just makes no sense to me why it has not been dealt with in the first moments of the first episode.

Fair enough point.

At the moment I'm guessing that the Maria Hill that we have seen is a Skrull and that's why the conversations she's had w Fury have been kind of awkward / negative and lacking in any real details of plans for what is occurring. I'm sure he knows and has been limiting his information etc.

Guess we just have to wait whilst they drip feed us the 6 episodes.

SI is the start of the main Phase 5 plotline of the MCU. So basically it's the present day MCU right after She-Hulk which will affect the upcoming movies since a good portion of the Skrulls have gone rogue. This will eventually lead up to Kang and his multiverse copies as the disappointing showdown. I wish Chukwudi Iwuji played Kang (not High Evolutionary) instead of Jonathan Majors as his English and acting are impeccable. Jon sounds slurred and partially drunk but that's just me.

Episode 2 addresses it directly

reply

Because show needs to happen, And every project cant be Avengers. No, they are not gonna insert Avenger to every tv show and solo movie.
Just accept it and stop asking about it, people.

For one thing, it is bad storytelling.

It is a subject that could and should have been dealt with five minutes into the program because it is most likely the number one plot question viewers would have.

Next, the same could be said to you about replying to posts.....just move along if a post irritates you so much and stop replying.

reply

It was the first thing I thought of.

It's not bad storytelling at all, as it's nothing that needs to be addressed. It never even occurred to me while watching that anyone should be summoning a superhero. Why would they be? The show opens with Nick Fury being called back to earth because there may be some kind of Skrull plot to foment hostility in the world. As Fury points out, that's the norm. It certainly isn't any sort of earth-shattering threat for which one assembles one's Avengers. Perhaps now that Fury knows there are lots of Skrulls running amok, and some bombs went off in Russia, he will call in his big guns. Or maybe not? We'll see what episode 2 offers us, but it would have made no sense at all for Fury to immediately call for backup before he even knew what problem he was facing.

reply

I have to opine on the NOT bad storytelling side with this: At its core Secret Invasion is following Nick Fury, and Nick Fury is taking ownership of this issue. The same could be said for The Winter Soldier in that HYDRA was a problem that the Avengers were also not called in to address. It was Cap who took the leadership role in addressing HYDRA and Cap basically attempted to totally dismantle both SHIELD and HYDRA.

This time around Nick Fury will attempt the same because it is his mess.

Again.
