do you think a proper Mad Max film would bomb?

since Furiosa bombed, with Max as main character would it be a proper hit?

I think it'd be a coin flip. The Mad Max franchise was long dead back in 2015 when Fury Road was released. It had been 30 years since the previous installment, Beyond Thunderdome, which was a mess primarily because George Miller was grief stricken over the death of his close friend and collaborator, Byron Kennedy. Going by the box office gross it was a success, but given its high budget they probably at best broke even (180 million budget, about 380 million in global box office). But clearly there was a lot of buzz surrounding Fury Road ten years ago, mainly because it was a legitimately exciting, well-made action film with minimal reliance on CGI.

@darkpast
If Max was the main character, the movie wouldn't be called Furiosa.
The fact that it is called "Furiosa" and not "Mad Max" really should be a clear clue it was not going to be about Max. Plus, the trailer clearly showed it was going to be about the Furiosa character from Fury Road, not Max.
Anyone who thought otherwise, need their eyes and brain tested.

I don't know why you're asking the question. Because it was not a story about Max. It was never going to be about him or include him. Hence the title "Furiosa".

No, I do not. People aren't going to the movies anymore. Everything is "bombing."

Not if it had Mel Gibson.

People forget or don't know that Mad Max trilogy didn't actually make lot of money. People think it's some legendary mega movies since they are always "kinda there" and talked about. But they never made big money. They just had very small budget and that's why were success. But you can't shoot big move like that on 400k or 10 millions now.

Mad Max (1979)
Budget $400,000
Box office worldwide $100 million

Mad Max 2
Budget $4.5 million
Box office worldwide $36 million

Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome
Budget $10 million
Box office $36 million

It's a niche franchise. It's not Back to the Future
