Before there was Tom Holland, before there was Andrew Garfield, and even before there was a Marvel Cinematic Universe, there was Tobey Maguire as Spider-Man. Originally in three movies for Sony, there were serious plans for a fourth. In fact, years were spent trying to make Spider-Man 4 happen for a 2011 release date, but instead, the movie was scrapped in 2010 and a reboot with Andrew Garfield graced the screens instead. While that reboot turned into its own phenomenon, so much work was done on Spider-Man 4 that fans have remained curious about what could have been. Over a decade later, the conversation hasn’t stopped. After some work from a trusted and proven inside source for Giant Freakin Robot, we have learned that Sony is currently revisiting the idea of Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man 4 in a new way.

Our source shared that because of the huge success Sony has recently seen with Spider-Man, they are considering making Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man 4. The current idea is to tell the fourth story as an animated movie. The style would be something similar to what fans have loved with Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse.

While we learned that Sony is considering this, it sounds like it’s still in the early stages, which makes sense. There’s a lot happening for Marvel and Sony with Spider-Man right now. Still, we have a lot of questions, most of which the studio may currently be working on themselves. While they’re looking at creating this project right now with Tobey Maguire, would Kirsten Dunst be involved? She played Mary Jane Watson in the first three films. When Spider-Man 4 was discussed, director Sam Raimi said he couldn’t imagine making another one without her. At the same time, she wasn’t confirmed for the sequel when it was eventually cancelled. Another interesting question here is at what point in the timeline Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man 4 would pick up. Animation leaves a lot of room for options here.

Why do it animated? They should do a live-action "middle-aged Spiderman" with Tobey going through all the usual middle-aged guy problems with wife, kids and job while trying to keep up his crime-fighting superhero career.

reply

No body wants to see Kristen Dunst screaming like a chicken for ten minutes of the movie

Infinitely better than Zendaya.

reply

With your logic The sam raimi movies should’ve been called Mary Jane. You agree with her.

I never said anything of the kind. I simply said Kirsten Dunst is infinitely better than Zendaya as Mary Jane. Which is completely true. Though not hard to do. Zendaya can't act at all. She has no screen presence. She is not attractive. She has connections in Hollywood, though. That's why she keeps getting these roles in films guaranteed to make her look like a success. In truth, ANY Spider-Man film is going to make tons of money. And same with Dune. Put her in a film she has to carry as THE star? And it will fail miserably.

Yayee Yayee!!!!!

You're right!

Do you think Hailee Steinfeld would make a good Maryjane?

reply

Animation is usually the safest bet if they're playing it safe but then again it's Tobey we're dealing with so live-action would do well on its own as well. If they have the writers for No Way Home or whatnot, who knows. They should have input from Rami as well though since he has great liners for the Rami-verse spidey.

I actually thought he was the best Spider of all three. The problem with the current guy is too much tech. I know, I know, they going with the times but with so much tech, they should just call him Iron Spider.

reply

i basically agree with you, but this film takes care of that problem.

the spider-man we're left with at the end of this movie is the one we know - broke, no fancy tech, and worrying about the rent.

reply

Ah ok, I think I missed that because I woke up during the credits roll.

reply

Zombie reply for two reasons: A: haha, and 2: as a big Raimi fan I've remarked several times that while I consider Tobey the best overall Spider-Man, I consider Holland the best Peter Parker, strangely.

reply

Well, he's back to his classic Spidey now so no worries.

No Way Home Could Launch A Spider-Girl Spinoff In Maguire's Universe

Spider-Man: No Way Home gives new insight into Peter and Mary Jane's relationship that sets up a possible Spider-Girl movie in Maguire's universe.

Here is an idea for Spiderman, you have a new villain causing trouble, send Maryjane to a different country. If you have not noticed, she keeps getting kidnapped by the bad guy.

Meme-Man: The Fourth Base

It should be a Spider-Verse first live action film. Spider-Man there is still young in human nature as we're young until our 50's these days. I put in ideas for MCU Spider-Man 4.

reply

I only somewhat believe this because of Tom Brady lol.
