What was the point in casting John Krasinski in the first place?

They went out of their way to cast him when he was a clear fan favorite for the role only to get about 5 lines in a 1 minute screen time where we didn't see him do much, only to be killed off after 5 minutes. We all thought they were setting him up for a bigger role in the future only for him to be replaced. Don't say they did it for the fans because when have they ever cared what the fans think.

And before you come up with the "different universe, different appearance" excuse, they used the same actors for Black Bolt, Peggy Carter & Maria Rambeau. And yes, I know MCU Professor X won't be Patrick Stewart but he and the other Illuminati members did play the role before, Krasinski hasn't.

Now I'm hearing the story that Krasinski didn't want to commit to a long term project, if that's the case then why was he cast to play a prominent figure of the Marvel Universe in the first place? They could've brought back Ioan Gruffudd if they wanted a 5 minute Mister Fantastic cameo as everybody is familiar with his incarnation of the character

I'm convinced something happened behind the scenes for Krasinski not to return, probably got screwed over one way or another, or maybe Woke Liberal Feige didn't want a white guy in the role.

I'm sure it was a nod to the fans, who wanted to see him in the role. Perhaps they were considering him for the film as well, but went in a different direction. I don't think race or politics were a part in the decision, as they case a different white actor in the role.

Well to go from a white man like John Krasinkski to Pedro Pascal as the role pretty much means as usual MARVEL/Disney are all about Race and DEI overall is what I'm seeing

He is as much a PoC as he is ..., so it is a win for Disney. Furthermore, they basically have him already under contract. Krasinkski has enough reasons to NOT sign for Disney, especially if he does not get creative freedom. Wouldn't be surprised, if it went south because he also wanted to directing or at least writing credits.

Maybe the intention was for him and Emily Blunt to be in F4, but she didn't want to play sue storm? and without her marvel felt it wasn't worth having Kranzinski (the real life husband/wife to play husband/wife onscreen) when they could get the more popular Mandalorian guy ?

And as to why she wouldn't want to do it maybe she just loathes comic book movies ? apparently she was cast as black widow for IM2 but had to drop out over schedule conflict with a Jack Black movie she was doing, but maybe that was just the story and really she just didnt want to sign up for endless superhero films? (or maybe she didn't want to work her husband on screen?)

Well, whatever the reason, at least we were spared having Krasinski in the role of Reed Richards, something he is utterly unsuited for. Krasinski works as a doofy everyman a la Jim on The Office, but even his brief screen time in Doctor Strange was enough to show how ill-suited he is for the role of Mr. Fantastic.

If the film also avoided being saddled with Blunt as Sue Storm, then it's a double-win.

Both John and Emily co star in it and both do a great job.
And John does a great dramatic acting job.
