Here's the thing: I definitely appreciate you posting the reviews and I read through 2 of them (the 3rd got a bit spoilery so I stopped) but I'm always going to make my own decisions and I often don't agree with critics. But, I've read enough horror film reviews to know that if they have any positives to give, the film shouldn't be that bad. Most horror films have bad reviews and if they are universally loved, why?

Bottom line is I will make my own decision but I see a lot to like in here. I get it that MM isn't Jason, but I have no problem with a super violent MM! Great kills? Sign me up! JC score! Exploration of Haddonfield and its population as characters? Cool! In the end, I'll have to feel it out for myself and I'll see it somehow.

PS: Score was pre-ordered long ago and I can't wait for it to arrive!

Critics reviews ,especially in the horror genre, mean nothing to me.There are many horror films considered classics now that were originally trashed by critics. The Thing comes to mind.

And a lot of the ones they give a 'perfect score' to nowadays I just find either boring or just pretentious. Described as 'scary', 'frightening' or 'disturbing' & I'm just sitting there thinking, when does that bit start

When it comes to horror, my taste in them RARELY matches that of critics.

reply

Ah, you speak of Hereditary, yes?

reply

That's definitely one of them, yes. I thought it was fine. Way too overhyped by the critics.

Another one is The Witch (2015). I thought it was a good, atmospheric film but the "scariest film ever", not so much

reply

Yeah, I liked The Witch but it definitely wasn't scary.

I think that's what their fans want. And why I appreciate the trailer. It tells us what this film is all about. A lot of bloody killing, which is why I doubt I will watch it. I still haven't seen the previous Halloween film, even with the gimmick of bringing Jamie Lee Curtis back as Laurie. Smart financially, since it clearly revived the franchise. I'm only a fan of the first film, though.

There's only so much you can do with a character like Michael Myers. He's mute, he walks slowly, he mainly stalks suburbs, and his primary weapon is always a kitchen knife

I didn't really enjoy the last Halloween movie, I thought it was very bland and I don't think they set up anything interesting for this sequel. He got trapped in a fire, ok. Burnt Michael Myers, ooooh how scary. It's just gonna be more of the same as last time and none of the characters from the last one were interesting enough for me to care about

I'm really looking forward to the new Scream movie. Whether the Scream movies are good or bad, at least you get to look forward to a new mystery and a new killer reveal. Plus there are changes in phone technology and new Horror tropes that can be lampooned. The Halloween franchise is stale, IMO. Once this Gordon Green's trilogy wraps up they need to take a good long break from Michael Myers until someone can think of something genuinely interesting to do with the character
