They really ran out of ideas for this franchise

Having the plot be people who just decide to keep purging after the purge ends just screams desperation.

The best "Purge" movie, BY FAR, was "The Purge: Anarchy" which examined someone who wanted to kill for revenge and how being plunged into the violence of the night turned him around. It was atmospheric, actually scary, and very good.

But, that was it for the series. Definitely out of gas and rolled to a complete stop.

Purge Anarchy was the only decent one in the series.

Election Year was trying way too hard to be political and ending up becoming exactly what the series was trying to satirize. The First Purge was just an all around badly made movie.

The first two films in the series (The Purge & Anarchy) were well done, but everything since has been a boring slog (including the series on the USA channel). The last film (where a murderous drug dealer winds up as a Mandela-like figure) was pure rubbish.

I agree, the series just kept going downhill after.

The first one was a bad idea

You cant blame them for running out of ideas , mainly because:
"It was the stupidest premise for a movie ever concieved"
(the original one i mean)
There never was a single viable "idea" to have.

The horse was never a thouroughbred , its at the end of the road on last legs. Lets keep flogging it.

I remember the trailer intriguing me for a moment, just a moment, and then I realized wait, what makes this difference from having a movie with homicidal lunatics lol.

Really poor effort this time round !

No tension and just taking it away from the one night only purge made it into a boring run of the mill shoot them up .
