Every woman on this show was beyond irritating

Not a single female character was well-written, interesting, or something other than a loud, shrewish, obnoxious idiot.

And all the male characters were lying, whiny, insecure, violent, criminals (with the exception of Walt Jr who was just insecure and whiny), so it all evens out.

reply

But at least the male characters were well-written and had some depth to them. The women were nothing more than caricatures -- lazily-drawn caricatures without depth, nuance or much of anything other than the ability to drive the men on the show, and people watching the show, crazy.

Andrea was a good character. Her death was sad and shocking.

reply

You're right. She was a good character. She doesn't quite make up for the two worst written female characters in TV history -- Skyler and Marie -- but it was refreshing that, near the end of the series, they finally gave us a woman who wasn't a lazily-drawn caricature.

I am watching the show again, first time since it was aired, and all the characters were dicks, not a single one in the first few episodes i liked. Skyler nagged about everything, when Walt did not come home early for two days, she instantly thought he was cheating on her. Walt was being a dick for not telling his family he had cancer (he just wanted to not tell them and just drop dead one day coughing up blood?) Hank was just a overall douchebag that i know became better in the later seasons.

Walt Jr was your typical teen angst douche, perfect example was that he thought it was stupid that Walt was not being sad he was gonna die so he just said across the room to "just die already". Skyler never got any better, sure Walt was being a dick to turn into a criminal but his reasons were to not leave his family behind with his bills from his cancer treatments. She had all these little things to control him, like not buying real bacon anymore because imagine eating real bacon! you might die from that! But the worst she did was cheating on Walt, luckily her lover died, well, more like killed himself technically.

It was an accurate portrayal of women though. They can be pretty annoying.

lol thanks

I'm guessing the feminist excuse would be because the men were selfish and insufferable and that means they had to take charge. Or something like that...

I thought the wife was the worst. She knows Walt has cancer and is up against it but was always just pushing for herself.

That’s just how women are. Don’t blame the writers, blame the women.

That reminds me of this wonderful scene.
“How do you write women so well?”
“I think of a man and I take away reason and accountability.”

Seriously though, Andrea was fine. Mrs. White's lawyer seemed reasonable. The girl working the register at the gas station seemed alright.
Windy was fucking awesome.

I thought Lydia was a neat character. A villain with a child, who was rather quiet and laid back. I didn't like her because she was a horrible person obviously, but she was not "obnoxious" or "annoying" as you say the other female characters were.

I personally think you probably look for this kind of stuff in everything you watch so you can find a reason to bitch about sexism, which is one of the most popular things to do in today's world.

They are characters. Not every female character has to be some cool Ivy League scholar who can fight like Rambo and solve every problem. Some women are annoying, just as some men are annoying. It's life. Get over it.

Jesse was really annoying a lot of times in the show, why don't you bring that up? Oh yeah, he has testicles.

Why don't you point out some of the annoying male characters on TV shows? There are plenty, but that doesn't matter. Only the annoying characters with vaginas.

I thought Marie was a great character, and really funny a lot of the time.

Or maybe you're right, and it's just the evil patriarchy trying to keep women down, and they chose Skylar and Marie on Breaking Bad to get one more jab in. Lol.

reply

I'll give you that: Jesse, at times, was an enormously annoying SOB. And Aaron Paul never portrayed the character as well as some people claimed he did.
