I like them both, but I like all six cinematic James Bonds as well
Oh I see, then I don't understand WHY he wasn't available that first time! And my favorite BOND was the 90's one PIERCE BROSNAN! Though today's Daniel Craig one is VERY EPIC!!!
shareDon Cheadle wasn't available cause he was filming the movie Traitor at the time. It is a shame since Iron Man is a better movie in my opinion.
shareI don't think he priced himself out. He was originally the highest paid actor because Downey was on rebound. When sequel came Downey's price tag was higher and Howard expected a commensurate increase. They said no and he walked. So in effect the producers priced him out.
shareI've heard audio of Howard complaining that RDJs high salary is the reason he couldn't get more because the budget didn't allow it. He said or implied that RDJ was selfish. He was kidding himself if he thought his value was equal to Downy in this franchise.

So if he's dumb enough to both piss everyone off AND ask for far too much money.. I'm surprised he's still working!

I'm a not a big fan of Howard he seems like a douche and Cheadle is more likable but still I wish he would have stayed for the sake of continuity. same for Norton over Ruffalo (but the later has made a Great hulk since Avengers)
shareHoward's voice is too nasaly and annoying. He doesn't carry himself like a superhero. Plus, he didn't have the improv skills to hang with Robert Downey Jr. Every scene they're in, Tony just makes Rhodey out to be some whiny buffoon. Cheadle carries himself with more confidence and can spar in a battle of wits with RDJ. I'm glad they changed.
shareI like him better too, especially once I got to know the character via the original actor. Cheadle just has a much bigger smart ass vibe than Howard. Stark is the smart ass....Howard complimented him better.
shareHoward abuses women. Cheadle doesn't. Clear choice since Cheadle also isn't a headcase who has a fetish that women use baby wipes on their privates before he'll date them. Howard is a nutbag.
