In hindsight, wasnt getting everyone else to parachute off really stupid?

First of all, it alerted the terrorists something was happening. You'd think the major would know that was going to happen. And it almost allowed the terrorists to win. They captured the president and were able to make him do what they wanted. That only happened because they saw the ramp was opening.

Second, where the hell are the hostages going to land? Just in the middle of the ocean? At night? And not even together since the plane is still moving, so theyd land in different areas? How would they all be found? Theyd be constantly moving once they landed with the waves. I doubt there was boats and helicopters in that area already. By the time rescue came, they could have been miles away from where they landed. Not to mention sharks and things.

Of any plan, that was the worst. It would have been smarter to continue the president's way of taking out the terrorists one at a time, and keep the other people on the plane. There was only 3 terrorists left.

Well, as I recall they were not over water at that time. He wanted to get hostages to safety. We, meaning US forces, knew the passengers were going to parachute out. They were making arrangements for pickup.

In hindsight, it might have been better to wait, though I doubt it. But ultimately hindsight is always 20/20, but we can't make decisions from hindsight. We can only go with what we think is the best option at the time.

I loved the big smile on Miss Fax's face as she parachuted down. She looked like she was on a ride at Disneyland.

Same. That kills me every time I watch the movie.

Plot hole

Every hostage that remained is potential leverage. BY getting them off the plane you make the terrorists plan less doable. The few that remain would have to be very carefully handled and not just blown away on a whim.

At least you got confirmation that it's not a plot hole.
