What is the moral of Pulp Fiction?

Why does Jules live and Vincent die?

reply

Vincent died partly because of bad luck, and partly because Butch is a badass. If there's some kind of deeper message or thought provoking thing going on there, I didn't notice. Make sure you keep your weapon on you at all times, even in the bathroom. Vincent probably never expected Butch to return to his apartment and got sloppy.

I think Jules was somehow worth saving, he was so shaken up from being shot at in the apartment he decided to quit his life of crime. Jules also saved Honey Bunny and Pumpkin so he's on a path of saving, not killing, lives.
Vincent however, is just the devil's snake.

I'm not sure the film overall carries much of a moral or message... But in the specific case you brought up: Vincent dies and Jules lives, an argument could be made towards Jules' spiritual awakening. He makes the decision to leave the gangster life and move forward towards helping people and being a good man. Vincent stays shackled in vice and destruction, and so that is what he gets.

So, there's kind of a theological message there.

But I'm not sure the movie as a whole supports that...

Vincent went to the restroom too often in public and every time he did something bad happened. Bad things happen in bathrooms.

Vincent almost pushed the situation to a head by not washing his hands correctly in the restroom at Jimmy’s house.

Mia did coke in the restroom at Jack Rabbit Slims, a habit that almost caused her demise.

Did the man with the hand cannon come out of a restroom or a bedroom?

Fabine brushed her teeth forever in the restroom instead of being responsible and making sure she had brought the watch along.

Once he came out of the restroom and Mia had overdosed.

Second time he came out and honey bunny was pointing a revolver at him.

Then we know what happened when he came out of the restroom at Butch’s apartment.

Danger and restrooms seem to go hand in hand.

reply

You might be pushing it with Fabienne, but yeah, the movie is flush with problems in the can.

reply

the movie is flush with problems in the can.

Would you say it is the number one problem? Or is it a number two?

reply

I’m thinking number one. Anyone doing number 2 probably includes number one on the same visit, so it’s a sure bet.

reply

Answering that question might be a pipe dream...

reply

This entire conversation is going down the toilet.

reply

It is in a bit of a downward plunger...

reply

Well I hope you’re not pissed off about it.

reply

I feel a little wiped, but not pissed.

reply

I'm a bit pooped, myself.

reply

If we're tired, maybe we should scat, then?

reply

Like The Shining & Full Metal Jacket, lots of bad mojo in the "Head". "What are you animals doing in my head?"

I forget a bit, but wasn't Vincent constipated?

reply

Jules took the path of righteousness and left the crew. Vincent stayed on the same path and died.

If you paid attention marsaules was asking where Jules was after butch betrayed him and only Vincent was there. Jules was already on his path to righteousness

reply

Yep, walking the earth like Cain in Kung-fu. You know, meeting people and getting in adventures. 😀

reply

It's about redemption.
